If you want to send a sound and type your own text while playing the sound, you can't use the clickable emoticons. The emoticons will only appear when you type the code, not when you click on an emoticon.
Example: /shello This is the text that I want to send

This seems to be a limitation. You might be interested in reading /syawn 
& command in command polish.

If you use the Quick ICons panel of Plus! instead of the Messenger's one, you won't have this problem (just press '(').
