Computer Freezes At Bios Screen by Reaper on 10-23-2005 at 05:33 PM

my mates computer freezes on the BIOS startup screen. it shows (like most computers) the computer make then just stops, no error messages displayed, it just freezes. i asked him if he changed anything in hius computer, i.e. hardware/software, he said that he turned his computer off badly, i think he pulled the plug out.
hes running on XP Home
any ideas?

hmmmmmmm then i have no clue maybe read the instuction manual or call tech support cuze i really dont know alot about bios

it might be a BIOS error, check the instruction manual on how to reset CMOS. It's just a matter of taking the battery out and switching a jumper, so it should tell ya which jumper to switch in the mobo manual.

Thx Sypher, i forgot that it was called a "CMOS Reset" :)

Hmmm sounds strange..

Things he could try:
- CMOS Clear.. As said by DragonX
- Remove ALLLLL!!! hardware except: CPU, RAM, Mainboard and VIDEO... then boot and see what happens..

If removing hardware works, try adding a component a time, boot up and test... And if it doesn't work at one point, you could know tha cause :)

Pulling the plug out, hmm doesn't cause damage, it really shouldn't cause damage...

Maybe he "fried" his Power Supply..

If so, he'd better buy a GOOD PSU, not a 3rd party or strange brand...

Good brands of PSU's:
- Enermax
- AOpen
- Asus
- Chieftec
- Coolermaster
- Zallman

Any questions can be asked ofcourse, either by replying or by PM.. You're welcome :)

Good luck and I hope this solves the problem

Nahh just take out the lithium battery and leave for 10mins then put back in and will work.
This is becuase it resets the bios settings.

By taking the battery out and switching the jumpers, it'll reset it in just a sec ;) That's why there's a reset jumper on a mobo ;)
