I'm quite surprised how many upright modems there are... they're the most annoying thing ever :-/ I only got mine because it was the only reasonably priced ethernet modem at the time.

When we were getting a PC, we were going to get an iMac (untill my dad found out what a mac was), and we were going to get a wireless adsl router just so there would only be one cable on the desk.

Exactly... valuable desk space is for things you actually need to touch... modems just sit there.

Vigor2600Plus ADSL Router - best modem/router here tbfh.

Vigor2600Plus Enhanced Firewall

The Vigor2600Plus includes full packet-level firewall facilities, not just the inherrent 'NAT' security and port-blocking of other routers. The router also employs keep-state packet recording; put simply, this means that when a packet is sent out, a reciprocal record is kept to allow a packet coming back in the opposite direction, but a default 'deny' policy means that any packet arriving which appears unsolicited won't get through. The Vigor2600Plus also features automatic protection from Dos/DDos (Denial of Service/Distributed Denial of Service) attacks and IP anti-spoofing. User-definable filters also allow you to add additional protection to your connection (see right). For added confidence, potential or foiled attacks are logged and can be reported via the router's syslog facility.

i win.

Some have stand-by buttons that are useful for paranoid people like me who want to quickly cut off their connections. And it's nice to be able to see the status lights when you're having connection trouble.
RE: post ur modem ;) by guanako on 10-27-2005 at 09:05 PM

mine is like on the side of the desktop so i can see all the lights and know that is working like it is supposed to :D, i kjust hate the so familiar wire mess :S if u keep your wires neat how do u do it?

RE: post ur modem ;) by Jimcando on 10-27-2005 at 09:10 PM

I have about 10 12 wires coming from my desktop :S
They all go straight down behind my computer so the desk is neat though. On the floor is where the real mess is :D
But who cares, cos I never go behind there anyway

EDIT: forgot to count the speakers :D
