My friend seems to think he got a keylogger without downloading it.
He says if someone has his IP address, they can keylog him.
Is this true?
I thought the only way was if you download it.

no, they can keylog him if they can get a application onto their computer..
any decent firewall will stop that from happening

in cracks per example, sometimes there are some files named crack.exe , that fool users who think that file is the crack...so they click it and right after a firewall notice will ask if you wish to allow it to connect to the internet..

And you need to download a keylogger for it to work and there is no other way. Thats why a good firewall is good cause the keylogger is useless if it cant report the keys to its server

No, you don't need to download a keylogger. There are various exploits that allow people to trojan you remotely if they have your IP; from there on they can download to your box and execute whatever they want.

keyloggers are a pain in the ass, try downloading antikeylogger (Works for windows XP only) - works well with unknown kyloogers (looks for strains) and it works well with hidden - unoticeable keyloggers ("Perfect Keyloger" is a good example)
any decent antivirus should ditect it though but it wont be as good as something ment to ditect keyloogers
