In short: I can't get Remote Assistance to work.

Me and the person im doing Remote Assistance with both has:
  • Windows XP Home/Pro
    Both have working internet connection
    Both have Windows Messenger
On MSN Messenger, I send an invite, they accept, then nothing.

try using the windows thing to sn=end it in the start menu not through msn - or is that what you meant?

click start, and find remote assistance, click it, choose to ask a friend to help, choose your friend, YOU MUST BE SIGNED IN TO MSN!, and then you can ask for total control - talk to him/her - maybe voice im not shore, but its probaly simliart from then on.
is really quite easy, just work through it logically! :)
