Suggestion by SikStyles on 11-16-2005 at 09:00 PM

I made this thread for a suggestion i think that should be considered. When you look at your own reputation page and when you go to the bottom of the page you can see "Votes given by SikStyles" but when you go on a different profile its not there anymore. Can someone add it, WDZ perhaps?

Thanks for reading.

RE: Suggestion by Tochjo on 11-16-2005 at 09:01 PM

It is intentionally not there. Only administrators are allowed to see whom others have voted for.

But what is the difference, why cant users see?
RE: Suggestion by Jhrono on 11-16-2005 at 11:39 PM

cause the only use of seing reps for users is to edit them (change the reason / change positive to negative or to neutral etc..) and for mods if someone says there is some irregularity with user's X reps..

It's mainly a privacy issue. The complete list of everyone I've voted for is none of your business. Only admins might need to view that, to make sure a certain user isn't giving lots of dodgy votes.
RE: Suggestion by Ash_ on 11-17-2005 at 04:47 AM

lol, why be able to see the votes of one eprson to another then?

etc if i wanted to go here
http://shoutbox.menthix.net/reputation.php?uid=4

and noticed that expert has given you a vote, is that a privacy issue, if i went through every single rep report and saved it all, would that be a privacy issue.

i don't really care if you do it or not i just don't understand how its a privacy issue if i can get all the information anyway. and i could create a php script to download every rep page and parse it all into some stats etc. that'd be extremely dodgy though.

care to explain?

IMO, i still think the Rep system should be Disabled, would solve a lotta fighting an bickering on these forums

Of course you could, but you wouldn't. There are lots of cases like that on the net, where data is available if you're determined enough, but it's not easy to get. It would take a while to gather it all, it wouldn't be updated in real time, it wouldn't be official, and it would probably get you banned. :p In this case it wouldn't even be that useful.

As for why I consider it a privacy issue... let's say a personal friend of mine (remember this is only an example :refuck:) registers and I don't really want everyone to know that I know him, but I still want to give him a rep. Currently it would be difficult for people to know unless they happened to view the friend's reputation page.

Also, if all my comments for different people could be easily compared, then people might joke that "omg WDZ likes User A more than User B," or come to other unfounded conclusions like that.

It's kinda silly, but even so, I think privacy outweighs the need for non-admins to have access to the list, and I'm not changing anything.

Cause we have 45-50k odd users of which atleast a 100 are regulars and another 200-300 are semi-regulars.

So how would you feel if someone told you, "hey you gave him a +ve and you didnt give me one. Why not ??" (considering he is a good friend) Thats the privacy problem.

I agree you could find peoples votes but ffs it would take forever to find other votes given by the user and well, it wouldnt cause vote related abuse. Imho, its perfect the way it is, just leave it. Its been like that for the past few months and this is the first thread i have seen about it meaning (imo) its going well.
