various OS's by [MR] on 11-23-2005 at 02:38 PM

well i got this pack of windows 3.11 and dos 6.22 in it.  so i put all the things in the disk 1 folder in to the frist disk and so on until i got to disk 8.  so i tried booting with disk one on my test computer and i get this message NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart.  well is there a way that i can just download that file like through limewire or somthing? or do i have to have dos 6.22 installed first?

Limewire and other peer2peer networks often have broken packages or even viruses/spyware in it, so beware :).

NTLDR messages are a windows 2000/XP and above thing afaik. Make sure old windows installations are gone first (format the whole thing). Then begin with DOS (yes, you do need that) and windows 3.11 after that.

You can probably dualboot win3.11/dos and windows xp/whatever too if you want. Google is your friend for that :).

OK, first of all MSDOS is also an OS, you have to install first MSDOS on a secondary partition or HDD but with FAT. MSDOS and Windows 3.1/3.11 DON'T support Fat32 and NTFS, only original FAT.

If you want to dualboot you will need an utility like DiskPart to enable dual-booting from Windows XP or whatever to MSDOS, from there you can enter Windows 3.1/3.11

EDIT: Keep in mind FAT can't have larger partitions than 1 or 2 GBs
