Spyware Definitions by DJeX on 11-25-2005 at 09:50 PM

Any one know where I could get free Spyware Definitions that I could use for my spyware remover program? I really don't feel like doing all the research on the many 1000000s of spyware out there so I need something that has the info for me so I don't have to make my own definitions.

The definitions are part of the program, unless you have a really weird program. Look on the site of the developer, you can probably download updated definitions there.

It would help if you gave us the name of the software btw.

What good is writing your own antispyware program if you use definitions from another program? The definitions are the real important part, everything else is just eye candy. Oh well, programming fun i guess :).

Why not use definitions from another program, microsoft does it and so do most of the antispyware programs out there. I'm only one person and if I had to go through all the spyware there is I would never finish my program, and my life would suck. Theres got to be a company that has them for download.

Microsoft AntiSpyware? No, they just bought a company that makes antisyware software. But it comes with their own definitions.

Anyway, look around at sites like download.com, find a nice list of antispyware programs. Look on their sites and see if you can download the definitions. Your next problem is probably figuring out how the definitions should be used, i don't think there is any company out there that will tell their users how to use their definitions in your own software unless you make a partnership with them and pay loads of money.

Have a read of Spybots news articles. Then you'll see stealing definitions isn't a good thing.

What would be better is if you program something which removes MSNM specific viruses and shit. You could make it update the definitions from your site. If it did it's job properly and was pretty professional you could have a pretty good program going for ya.

Something like this but for MSNM: Aim Fix 1.0 (Mirror). It would be a good learning experience and definately a lot simpler than doing it for ALL spyware/adware/malware etc.

I agree with linx, that would indeed be very interesting and useful. Go for it :)!
