Msn Spam/ Msn Virus ... scam? by M73A on 12-03-2005 at 07:13 PM

ive got things like this for years but i havent actually fthought about it...
i get things like:

quote:
EMERGENCY!!! If pavlo_88@hotmail.com adds you to your MSN Contacts, DO
NOT
(I repeat: DO NOT) add it because it's a virus that takes all ur
computer
details. PLEASE tell everybody on your contacts because if somebody on
your
list accepts it then you get the virus too!(copy and paste this into a
new
message because some people do not read forwards!) Don't just forward
it!

but isnt that just all bullshit? i cant see how just having someone on ur contact list can infect you.... AFAIK there is no direct connection to ur IP or anything unless uve got a file transfer going but i definitely aint gonna excepot some dodgy crap off people i dont know....

so am i being thick when i say why do people fall for it :dodgy: ?

No you aren't being thick, just being added to msn couldn't give you a virus :-/... It's impossible, the only way they can send you a virus is by sending you something once you add them...

Why would Microsoft allow that to happen? It would be a major security hole.

You'll find it's someone who someone else has a grudge against, and that someone else starts to spread the rumour that the first someone's Passport will spread a virus if you add it to your contact list.

Basically, it's a sick, childish joke, aimed at causing misery to the victim.
