Where or not (I think) decreasing/increasing the measure of stock* would help a country in an economical sense?

That's the way I see it :p.

*sorry, forgot to add that bit ;)

The measure of what..:S

Do you mean controlling stock (in general :S) is the best way to increase the economic success of a country?  :S

If i understand the question correctly, I think you mean is the BSE Sensex the best measure for India's economic success?

The Sensex is an index of the 30 most actively traded shares on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

I would say it isn't, because India has a very divesified economy, with a large proportion of the income being generated in the shadow economy and through unorganised markets. Furthermore, the companies in the sensex are not representitive of India's economic structure, most of the companies listed operate in the tertriary sector, with things like consultancy, banking and research. Wheras most of India's economy is based around agriculture and manufacturing, with most of these businesses being pvt (private limited) or sole trading.

RE: economic debate by -rafy- on 12-14-2005 at 03:06 PM

I would say no.

The trade of securities on a financial market such as senex, is usually not representative of true economic conditions and performance. That is beacuse the system has one characteristic that prevents this: Human interaction. It is human decsions and emotions that dictate the trade or shares. Yes, economic performance and indicators can effect the trade by institutional investors, however, most decsions are based on inflated speculation.
A stock market by nature is speculative and therefore only a ROUGH indicator.
