depends on the connetion on the back of the card. you might be able to get away with some basic copper wire, or maybe some coax cable, depending on the connector

well, i havnt a clue what the connecter type is, but if i gave the make and model of the card would you be able to tell?

lol, i cant find any pictures of the connection. well the name of the card is Ralink RT2500 Wireless LAN Card. isnt there a generic connection for the aerial?

have you tired it without? mine works fine without the ariel, it just bumps down the max distance it can be, but it depends on the make really

looks like it might a simple RCA jack, like an audio cable. I would just stick a paperclip (or something a bit longer) in the middle hole, that should work as a suitable replacement

Yeah definetly looks like a RCA jack for a second opinion.

thanks, but upon lookin at the port more, its not a hole, there a bit of wire there. not something stuck, but actually part of the port, so i cant put a paper clip or a piece of wire in there

RE: Wireless card, but no aerial.... by MeEtc on 12-15-2005 at 07:43 PM

oh, yeah, I see it now in the pic.
Electrical tape and copper wire. wrap the wire a few times around the point, tape it up. hang the slack somewhere over your desk or case

you could take a trip to the shops and buy an arial

get the coax cable  from the tv.
and try to see if it fits,
or itll do with the clip if it doesnt

You can use these makeshift antennas, but they will not give you very good performance, especially for digital date, Mbps of bandwidth, at high frequencies.

Any commercially produced antenna you but would have been engineered for the specific bands used by WiFi,  properly polarised and such. One of these will give you much better performance than a coat hanger could (even if they are good for FM).
