As of today, Music Mix is available to MSN Messenger 7.5 users as well as Windows Live Messenger 8.0 users. However the geographic restrictions still apply, it is only available to those users who live in USA, France, Germany, Japan and UK (or at least have their Passports set to those locations).

If you don't know what Music Mix is:

How awesome would it be if two people, in a conversation, could share one playlist? What about sharing a playlist along with the ability to add or remove tracks, skip to the next song, or reshuffle? Well, this is now a reality for Windows Live Messenger users!

How To Use It:

1. Open a conversation window
2. Hit “activities”
3. Select the second one down: Music Mix
4. When the play list opens, add tracks to it and jam away…together!

Details:
  • Remember – you’re sharing a play list. If you fastforward, skip, or stop a song, your buddy will hear the same thing you do.
  • Songs are not actually transferred to your buddy, only a compressed version is temporarily cached on their computer while you mix.
  • Playlist file formats are wma, mp3, & wav
  • Music Mix holds up to 25 songs at a time, each a max of 20MB in size. You must delete songs to add more
  • Album art info is shown at the top of the activity window only in the US, but obscure songs can sometimes show the wrong album art.

  • The Search button only shows up for songs added by your buddy, clicking it will take you to an MSN Music search for your song
Requirements:[list]
[*]Currently only available in the US, France, Germany, Japan, and the UK.
[*]Requires WMP 10, which is available for Windows XP and up.
[*]Now available on Windows Live Beta, but VERY SOON  MSN Messenger users will see it show up in their activity menu as well, so keep checking it.

sounds good an all, but its another lack luster thing that Australians cant use, why doesnt MSN develop something every country can use that doesnt have laws stopping people from using it

Because of the simple fact that each country has their own set of laws. It's not something they can change when they want to. Features made are made, weither or not countries allow those features in their software is their problem, not the MSN team.

I doubt there will be that many users switching clients because of sharing folders :S. All you have to do is switch your passport country and you get the extra stuff. Blame the countries governments, not MSN :p.

you got High Hope people wont switch there Sean, Lots do use trillain or Miranda, lets get with reality, how many people can be bothered going into there passport just to  change there location just to use the sharing folders or other stuff? i for one cant be bothered doing it,

RE: Music Mix Available on MSN Messenger 7.5 by Chestah on 01-19-2006 at 12:56 AM

I think Sean was referring to the average computer/MSN user though Animal. Most Australians that will upgrade to WLM won't even notice Sharing Folders if the MSN Messenger team never activate it for us! Also no ones going to notice that all these activities with your contacts aren't available for us either.

The average computer user won't even know what trillian and miranda are and probably would revert back to using MSN Messenger after as i think it would more suit there tastes.

Erg, Pretty much everyone I know wouldn't change clients just because
they aren't aloud to use some features... all they have to do is change
their country.  lol, it's now like anyone can do anything about
it, msn isn't gonna not add a few features just because some other
countries can't have it.

true, but MSN has to be fair for all its users, ok if Aissies cant have the sharing folders feature, atleast Microsoft will have to give us aussiees a Just as good feature we can use, if they dont, as i mentioned, people will just go to another Client that has just as much as excellent features in it,

take for Example Yahoo Messenger, they had/have there localised version for each country, with the same features, except for SHOUTcast Radio where the radio stations were locally to your country,

Seriously I very much doubt there is going to be a mass about of people switching clients over a sharing folders feature. As Chestah said, I doubt the average computer user know about different clients. It would involve research, and to be quite honest they would probably not be asked to do it.

I do believe that the MSN team is working on getting it to Austrailian users though ;).

Fixed the quote :$. I do read a LOT of other forums. I understand the fact that many people do not like the UI. But the MSN team cannot make something every-single-person will like. There is even people who dislike the MSNM UI, that is why people make skins. The UI is fine, but it does need a few tweaks and changes (Mostly all the grey parts). It's a matter of time before the people who do not like it get used to it.

thats true, people will get used to it but im not saying those people that do get used to it will remain with keeping Messenger 8 an not go elsewhere to look at another Client,
