They do exist... I can't give you an example off the top of my head... But in school everybody's always taught that *MOST* adverbs end in -ly....

This could be one... not sure...

The flutist played the song very well.

Very describing well... well describing how they played it.

RE: Adverbs Not ending in 'ly' ? by Aeryn on 01-20-2006 at 06:05 PM

Yeah, there are quite many words or phrases without -ly ending that serve as adverbs... *-)

* Aeryn does a quick google search

Fast, hard, straight, kind of, to some extent, quite, such...

Also, Wikipedia definition of adverb.

Yeah, but they can also serve as adverbs.

"We were driving fast", "worked hard", "went straight to him"...

In fact, a word can be an adjective or an adverb, it just depends on the sentence where it's placed in. ;)

In That line is straight., straight is an adjective because it tells more about that line. In She went straight to him., straight is an adverb because it tells more about how she went to him. Right?

There are plenty of adverbs not ending in "ly", off the top of my head:

"Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow, There, Here"
