removing the "index/" page by DJKAL on 01-21-2006 at 12:38 AM

i have hosting and have started creating a website, only basic! in notpad, but when i upload it to the ftp. server {by logging in and dragging the files from my desktop to the ftp. window} then when i load up the page it loads with an index/  page, does anyone know how to remove this page and get it to load just my home page {to veiw click "CDs.htm"} i know the colour of the text needs changing and an AWFUL lot of work is needed to get it anything near worth showing ut i want that page removed so that it just loads with the .htm oage and then any other pages are just accessed by the hyper links {to be created}
to veiw the website and see what i mean go HERE

hope you understand what i want done and that someone knows how to do this,
THANKS! :)

you need to save cds.htm as index.htm.

you make a link to another page -i.e. index5.html- then just create another page with the content you want on it and name it just that.

index page is the only one that has to be named a specific name: "index.html, index.php, index.html ..." or any other extension

all the other pages which are in the same directory dont need a specific file name

but if u have multiple folders:
/public_html/
index.html
blah.html
blah2.html
-/blah/
-index.html
-blah.html
-blah2.html
...

you need to have an index page in it if you want it to load it automatically when you go to www.site.com/blah

incorrect. the index page is whatever your host has set it. the default is usually "index.php,index.html,index.htm."

shawnz is talking about the ability to have something like welcome.html as your "index" page instead of index.*
