Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by Dudeboy on 01-24-2006 at 08:40 PM

Hey, Guys/Girls?

Do any of you guys ever get hold back from upgrading to your Windows live messenger invite? i know i do, i installed Windows live messenger and then i thought to myself "Hey, wait? im sure theres something missing!?!" and after i thought i noticed MsgPlus was not there, i have now been FORCFULLY to be downgrade back to 7.5 JUST because of Windows live messenger, what i am asking here is if anybody knows a date that MsgPlus Live will be released so i can start using Windows live messenger!

Do any of you guys get this problem or can somone give me a release date not exact but around what you think or anything, i really want to know!

Thanks alot.
Matthew Southall. :)

Messenger Plus! Live will be released soon after the release of Windows Live Messenger 8. So that would be by february or march.

RE: Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by CookieRevised on 01-24-2006 at 08:44 PM

There is no fixed date. Plus! Live will be available when a) it is finished and b) not as long Windows Live Messenger is still in beta.

Sticking months on the release of Windows Live Messenger is even guessing as even MS isn't sure about when it will be finished. All they officially say is it will be released in the first part of 2006; the beta will be released to public hopefully around end feb/mar.

I don't know where you got that from cookie.. The last thing they told me is that the beta will become public in spring 2006 (so that'd be march-june). The final release will be a few weeks/months later I suppose...

which is "first part" of 2006 ;)

As for "hopefully around end feb/mar", I meant the public beta, sorry I'll fix the post...

I find people are to caught up on dates & deadlines. It will be released when it is ready.

If i had a MSN Messenger news based website i would concider that big news as your a MVP. Oh well mess.be can steal it now :P

Is it me or is the amount of these threads getting out of control we need to make a sticky thread or something explaining. :)
RE: Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by GiantSpider on 01-24-2006 at 09:37 PM

Common Fact: N00bs don't read sticky's.

RE: Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by CookieRevised on 01-24-2006 at 09:37 PM

That's not big news, is has been said on many sites already (in the past). But that certainly does not mean it will be those months though (a small thing could easly prospone this); It is what they hope/aim for...IIRC. No date has been officially said what-so-ever, anywhere, only vague periods...

I just don't understand why I can't use Plus!

I love Plus!, but now, I can't use it because I'm not accepted to Plus!'s beta, and as everyone know, normal Plus! doesn't work on Windows Live Messenger, which I'm using.

I think, as there are lots of people using WLM, Plus! Live should be public. I WANT to use Plus!. I can do nothing without Plus! on WLM. (ok, not that much, I can chat, that's it. only chat)

It can crash, some features may not work, I'm OK with all, I just need Plus!:(

RE: Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by mwe99 on 01-26-2006 at 10:32 PM

Plus is not compatable with Windows Live...

Plus Live is in testing and will be released when testing has finished and windows live is public

All any one can say to that, is tough im afraid. You're not alone, i too am a WLM tester and a WLM mail tester, yet i find myself constantly flipping back and forward. But thats life unfortunatly!

Besides on a seperate note, anyone think this years FLYING by? If it carrys on like this, March doesn't seem that far away!

You do have to remember that windows live messenger 8 is still in testing so hasn't been released officially. So you can't say that plus live should be public yet.

Messenger Plus Live itself has to be tested to make sure it is compatible with windows live messenger. If you really want to use plus, then stick with using MSN Messenger 7.5 and just wait for the public release. Patchou has been working really hard on Messenger Plus Live so that it will work fine with Windows Live Messenger, so just be patient.

I know this,
just wondering why these aren't publicly available with a note saying that "It is beta, downloading is NOT recommended" etc. but the users that want to use it even it has problems can download it?

Well, this is really up to Patchou, but i really doubt he would do this. Firstly the point in testing is to fix the bugs in the software and there is no point in releasing a beta which is bound to have some bugs in at first even if there is a warning about it being a beta. If there are lots of bugs, then this may give plus a bad name. It is better to officially release a tested and quality program.

Plus! has not even been sent to beta testers yet. This means that it isn't even ready for testing. You are going to have to wait.

Not to mention they have not even been chosen yet :p.

Plus! being there wont make a difference.
If its crashing you are worried about then you should never take part in beta's and you should just downgrade if you feel that you would rather use 7.5 cause it has less problems.

If you take part in a beta then you are willingly saying that you are willing to test the product to help remove the bugs. Taking part in beta's is not so you can tell people that you are in one. It is to help figure out problems in the site. If you are not willing to face the problems which may arise due to it then never take part in beta's :)
RE: Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by can16358p on 01-27-2006 at 03:39 PM

What are you really talking about, I didn't get it. I know what beta testing is, and I DO beta-test WLM, I send feedbacks regularly about the problems I see to Microsoft, I know it is beta-tester's job. Yeah, I will report the bugs I see in Plus! to Patchou if I can beta test. That's no problem with me, anyway, the thing I was saying is something different.

RE: Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by Idium on 01-27-2006 at 05:45 PM

if you want to beta test follow the instructions on http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=55188

RE: Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by can16358p on 01-27-2006 at 05:52 PM

Of course I've followed them. But no answer :(

RE: Windows Live Messenger - Why!?! by Lou on 01-27-2006 at 06:43 PM

Look, Plus! will not be released for a while. The testers haven't been chosen, noone but Patchou has it, and what's more, he won't give you a copy just because you want it.
