Bug: Continuous flashing after Disable and Delay Reset have been clicked.
If it's your first time downloading MessengerFlash and your seeing this, ignore it.

You can download your copy here.

Brief overview
MessengerFlash is a unique program that flashes the Num/Scroll/Caps lock lights to indicate that a MSN conversation has been opened. This is extremely useful if you are playing full screen games/movies/etc.

Legal crap
By downloading and running MessengerFlash you agree not to sue me for erratic and/or destructive behaviour from your PC, heavilly armed police breaking down your door and arresting you, or anything like that.

Im finally done!

Plans for V1.1:
Ability to customise MessengerFlash
Choose which locks to engage!

Have fun (6)

Seems pretty cool to me! Scroll lock seems the most appropriate :p.

what happens if i'm typing something and then the caps lock key flashes? will it go into caps lock for a second or will it not affect the actual function of the buttons?

Yes it will. I cant just tap into the keyboard's lights. That would require many extra hours of work and coding. Something Im not up to. Not to mention the many hundreds of keyboard brands.
RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by simsgenius on 01-26-2006 at 10:32 PM

just installed it and realised that my keyboard doesn't have lights LOL!

Oh well, it was a nice idea.

Could someone take a video of it working please?

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by lrac522 on 01-26-2006 at 10:34 PM

Interesting. would be quite useful with my Media Player Visualization full mode.

You must click Delay Reset before MessengerFlash will kick in. The delay is 10 seconds long.

Please read the README file before using MessengerFlash. I also posted a video of MessengerFlash in action.

Try downloading it again. That update was a bit rushed. It should be fine now.

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 01-27-2006 at 02:18 AM

Very strange, It's working on my end.

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by PAT.riot73 on 01-27-2006 at 03:58 AM

i have to say, this tool is very, very useful! you should create another one that sounds also because i don't look at my keyboard when i'm aiming a rifle at someone.

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 01-27-2006 at 08:07 PM

Will do

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by PAT.riot73 on 01-28-2006 at 01:09 AM

Why does MessengerFlash kick in when I get email/contact notifications?

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 01-28-2006 at 06:39 PM

Kick in how?
When those little dialogs popup?

MessengerFlash shouldnt. It's been coded to specifically look for conversation windows.

Ill look into it.

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by matty on 01-28-2006 at 10:39 PM

I suggest converting this into a Messenger Plus! plugin.

Reason is you are using the Windows Messenger API causing msmsgs.exe to be launched in the background on Windows XP systems. (Very annoying)

Never noticed that. Thanks. I will look into the Plugin thing.
RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 01-31-2006 at 07:16 AM

Update

Wow, I'm a senior student! School is a lot stranger now, new routine!

Anyway, down to MessengerFlash.

To address the msnmsgs.exe firing itself up, I will add code to automatically kill the process while MessengerFlash is running. This will only be temporary for V1.2 until I find my feet with this new MessengerPlus Delphi SDK. (Thank you PsychoMark!)

V1.2 will include a sound alert feature, for non-Scroll/Caps/Num lock light keyboards (Which I still find extremely strange :P)

And due to the fact that I am a senior now, I have a much larger work load, so that means updates and support will be fewer and further apart. But I will try my best to keep MessengerFlash up to date.

I also discovered another issue as well. Whenever I play America's Army (And maybe some other games, not confirmed) and MessengerFlash is fired, MSN Messenger seems to crash. So the 'Closing window' function will be replaced with 'Minimise window'.

Just a side note: If your seriously considering programming, give Delphi a go. It's very easy to catch onto the language and the community is being eaten alive by C++ I'm sad to say. :(

Peace!

Sounds pretty cool, gonna d/l if MSG Plus is avaible on WLM :D

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 01-31-2006 at 08:28 PM

MessengerFlash will definately see Windows Live Messenger!

But I cant work on that until the public beta has been released. :(

Unless someone is willing to invite me? I would be willing to return the favour by an exclusive look at MessengerFlash V1.2 :P
:deal:

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 01-31-2006 at 08:35 PM

Wow, thankyou very much.
And nice timing too!

I will begin work as soon as I arrive home this afternoon!

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by PAT.riot73 on 02-01-2006 at 12:19 AM

I play America's Army too, and I haven't experienced any problems with Messenger.

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 02-03-2006 at 07:27 AM

Oh          my          god!

Is it just me or does Microsoft like to recycle code?
Must be why Windows has so many bugs :P

On my Windows Live Messenger research, I discovered that MessengerFlash is fired off by Windows Live Messenger conversation windows! Effectively making MessengerFlash v1.0 compatible with Windows Live Messenger.

But BE WARNED: This does not mean bug free operation! (And I *try* not to recycle my code :P)

Just thought I might let y'all know that.

MessengerFlash v1.2 should be released soon.

Justin

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 04-18-2006 at 04:00 AM

As I have said before (Because of Microsoft's window name recycling) MessengerFlash 1.0 will work with Windows Live Messenger Beta.
This does NOT denote a bug free operation.

MessengerFlash v2.0 will unlikely be released until Windows Live Messenger has finished Beta. This is because some elements that MessengerFlash uses may change before WLM goes 'Live'. No pun intended.
Any other programmer like myself will know about this.

I will run MessengerFlash along side WLM and see if any issues arise.

I do have a strange bug where if I close (minimize to tray) WLM it will crash and Windows Bug Reporting fires up.

This is not caused by MessengerFlash!

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by prashker on 04-18-2006 at 04:14 AM

What is the link for version 1.0?

because if its

http://www.thunderbolttactical.net/site/global/msgflsh.zip

then it does not work for WLM for me...I got version 566 :)

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 04-18-2006 at 04:33 AM

Really?
Did you hit Delay Reset?
I have the same build (8.0.0566)

RE: MessengerFlash is here! (Formerly known as ThunderboltAllertor) by Delphi Thunderbolt on 07-14-2006 at 04:55 AM

I'm going to drop a bombshell on you guys.

MessengerFlash 1.2 is dead. Don't close the window and cry yet...

Ive made this decision because I have been secretly working on MessengerFlash Live!

I will have the installer uploaded in a couple of days when I have all the bugs and such worked out.

Be prepared: MessengerFlash Live is a VAST improvement on MessengerFlash 1.0.

See y'all soon!

RE: MessengerFlash Live is here! by Delphi Thunderbolt on 08-01-2006 at 12:28 PM

I have made an update, containing a few bugfixes.

http://www.thunderbolttactical.net/

And I will have an autoupdate feature implemented by next release.

COPY THE INI FILE OR THE INSTALLER WILL ERASE YOUR SETTINGS!

RE: MessengerFlash Live is here! by Yil2201 on 08-16-2006 at 10:07 AM

Very cool script and very cool idea!
But i have a Logitech Keyboard with SetPoint drivers installed.
When Numlock is enabled, it shows "Verrouillage Num. Lock" in english "Num. Lock enabled" ... and same with each led ... is there a way to disable those notifications ?

RE: MessengerFlash Live is here! by Delphi Thunderbolt on 08-16-2006 at 11:06 AM

Where is this being displayed?

If it's on screen, you should be able to disable it through SetPoint (coincidently, I recently purchased an MX1000 :P; but I don't have a Logitech Keyboard yet. (Hint: MessengerFlash 2.1 will support a Logitech Keyboard feature, guess what keyboard, and which feature :D)).

Else, I don't know where it's displaying this. MessengerFlash has not been coded to do this.

RE: MessengerFlash Live is here! by Delphi Thunderbolt on 08-18-2006 at 01:03 PM

Rather than leaving you all hanging for the next version, Ill try to start posting little hints to what the next version will look like.

Here is the 'greeting' section of the new look MessengerFlash Live. I've decided to keep it to standard Windows looks, which means less stuffing around in Photoshop, and a cleaner interface.

I've also renamed the sections where various features go. And before anyone asks: yes they are hints to what some of the nice (let's hope :$) features will come in future versions.

You can already see that a web-update component will be completed by next release.

On the technical side of things, I've updated my Programming IDE from Delphi 7 to Delphi 2005. Much better improvement, but still getting used to it.

Catch y'all later.

RE: MessengerFlash Live is here! by KODENZELL on 10-11-2006 at 07:22 PM

do messangerFlash live can work on msn 7.5?,,i use msn 7.5

RE: MessengerFlash Live is here! by Delphi Thunderbolt on 10-12-2006 at 12:10 AM

If I read that correctly, Yes. MessengerFlash Live does support MSN Messenger 7.5.

v2.0.1.0 supports any other program that creates a Window handle.
