processes cleanup by user35870 on 02-04-2006 at 03:31 PM

hey,

My computer that is a compaq when it startes there's about 49 processes running :\ The computer came with Windows XP installed so most of them I think are the bundled stuff from Compaq. The only thing is which ones to disable?

Would anyone if I posted a auto runs log be able to check them for me?

thanks

A great way to start is by checking your processes in this site: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/

if the process can't be found there, just search in google (put the full name of the process in the search bar, something like: "svchost.exe") that you'll find info about it right away.

I know the feeling lol. Mine came with XP pre-installed and a load of bundled stuff and I've been meaning to clean it all up.

someone should make a program that scans all the active prossesses, and tells you which ones are absolutly nessisary to runing your computer, and which ones you can disable

Generally the ones ran by system are pretty important,

If they are ran by your user name its actually an application running on your behalf,  just kill these and work out which is which.  Also uninstall all the crap you dont want from add/remove programs
