last nite i click on the Messenger Plus xtra thing and renamed one of my contacts bt i didnt like it.
since den i cnt see any emotions in anyones name
its wud show ( L ) instead of the 
someone help me please

In the main messenger window go to Contacts -> Manage Contacts -> View Contacts By and select Display Name

when you say it goes back to its old ways have you renamed another contact? every time you rename a contact and then decide to go back to have them as d/n's {display names} you must apply this setting again - so you must sign out afterwards.
it is best that you sign out of MSN everytime anyway. not just shutting down your PC. it will remember your d/p {display picture} and backgrounds then too.

i did what u sed .. i signed out n wen i went back in the same ting is happenin ( no emotion )
its saved my d/p and thats it

how do i apply the settings?? its in the top of the screen all i can do is click view as contact display name ...

yes, click it and it should set the settings.
to save these settings you must sign out of MSN
these settings will be changed back to the old ones (where emoticons arent shown in the name) if you rename another contact or set the seetings to do this.
make sure that there are no options in the plus! menu that mean custom names aer enabled.

You can't have both custom names and smilys in the name of the contact, only one of them.

The main messenger (when i click on "contacts >> manage contact >> view contact by >> Display Name) thats all thats there where do i go to save the settings.
I sign out of MSN and go back in but i have to that ^^^^ all over again.. i went in 2 msgplus options and pressed applyd and then sign out again .... then go back in ......**you get the story**

go into the messenger plus! option panel and ensure you have "custom names" disabled
