Just thought I would post this, sorry if it has already been posted. ;)

Hmmm it makes me wonder what they changed now. They probably "reverted" something to how it was done in 7.5. Or it is a coincidence that "old" Plus! is working there.

Now my question is: did Patchou already know of this "changed" build and was developing his beta to be "plugged" on this? Or maybe he now is :#@°!"&'ing to MS because he will have to rewrite parts of his code to make it work with new build?

if you had of read, patchou has re-coded MPL4 from scratch, so i dont think patchou would of known about this at all,

Yeah, i remember reading someone saying this in the Beta newsgroups - i was going to post it but you beat me to it :).

It's interesting none the less, does this indeed mean that theres a possibility that the WLM team are using the older engine Patchou? (I'm not sure how that part of Plus works :)).

Very possible - that WLM team found that the new engine they had prepared to include in WLM 8(.0.365) was too buggy to fix, and they had to switch back to the old engine and use it in 562 build... :)

This will likely result in the further delay of the Plus! Live beta would it not?

Wouldn't surprise me really. I bet Patchou is pulling his hair out right now.

But it's Microsoft's choice to switch to the old engine, and I think it's definitely worth it if the new engine is crappy and buggy.

Well obviously there has to be benefits in using a newly developed engine - i'm hoping they will have time to remove most of the bugs in the newer engine and roll that out into the next upcoming betas.

as it says in the post, a lot of things aren't working eventhough they might have changed the engine. We'll soon know if Patchou already knew about this and thus could work with it for the beta of MPL!4 or that the beta will be postponed.

I really hope he already knew it, and that this is one of the reasons why he delayed his first beta release.

Even if it means no plus..

Why dont you just downgrade to 7.5 again and use MSN Messenger.... I have WLM (the older build) but I still use MSN more often because I don't like the way WLM is.
RE: Messenger Plus! 3.61 working with WLM 8.0.0562 by bazik on 02-10-2006 at 02:09 PM

wow, that was confusing! i havent tryied the new build, but i will when i get home... btw.. ugly? is it that awful?

what am wondering is.. whats gonna b of plus! live now.. and like asked b4 does this really implies that MS has given up on the new engine..

RE: Messenger Plus! 3.61 working with WLM 8.0.0562 by Menthix on 02-10-2006 at 02:52 PM

There is no reason for Patchou to give up on Messenger Plus! Live at all. All he might need to do it change his color scheme so it blends in with the new WLM style better, that's all. Nothing else really changed.

EDIT: MP!L Alpha already hooks into the new build, so i guess Patchou won't have to many problems with this build.

Here's what I posted on Neowin:

I'm surprised to hear it partially work, if I were you I would use caution (and uninstall it if Messenger starts acting funny). For those of you who wonder about old/new engine, the oposite happened. This new build of Messenger uses many new techniques/files which actually completely broke my current alpha version of Plus! 4.

So rest assured that Messenger is evolving, and quite a lot (the new beta requires at least XP SP1 though).

Like Patchou said, using 3.61 is not recomended on WLM. But here is a direct link: http://www.msgforum.nl/hosted/MsgPlus-361.exe . Because RapidShare kinda sucks these days :).
