a new idea....kinda....you'll like it :D by sooosolid on 02-14-2006 at 11:38 PM

[font=Arial][size=2][color=limegreen][b] Well i was thinking what i would love in the next messenger plus....and something great popped into my head....why cant we have custom emotions in our nicknames/screen.names?? its not like they have to be stored on your pc for you to see others as we know with conversations....so what limits us from putting them in msn names??? think how much easier it would be to make your name look unique without having to copy and paste txt and working out how many spaces you need to put in your name to make pamela anderson in your screen name 8-)

so you think its a gd idea patchou???(Y);)

In WLM isn't something saved onto your computer?... like your contact list or something like that... I could be wrong but I think something kinda like that is stored on your computer.

If this would happen, when you load your contact list you would have tons of images to download, so most probably making loading time be x50. Also, this takes server bandwitdh. I believe also that this isn't possible because the conversation window does not work the same as the contact list does.

hmmm i was thinking maybe in the contact list u would just see the shortcust in text...and maybe an option to enable or disable the emoticon in nickname feature. What if you could only fit certain size images/animations on there, so it would be just like a normal msn name with emotions....except....your own ones.

surely that makes sense to someone??
if we can use msn emoticons...why not our own??

I doubt it will be possible. The custom emoticons are stored on your pc. But your nickname (together with your contact list) is stored on the server (that's why you have the same nickname no matter where you sign in). So for it to work the server should be able to accept and store your custom emoticons. That would add a big load for it.

either those emoticons are stored on the server too or the server sends a special message too your computer when you sign in and have an emoticon in your name.

You can use the standard set of MSN emoticons because they are already included/packaged with the MSN Messenger application and thus it does not need to transfer any extra data - the client just replaces the shortcut with the copy of the appropriate emoticon on the local user's pc.
