Spyware ??? by Sonseeahray on 02-25-2006 at 02:11 AM

Hello! I use to use Messenger Plus! and loved it..
But, I downloaded a anti-spyware program and it said it contained adware/spyware, and was a medium threat to my computer.

Does this program contain spyware?? I really want to use this again, but my PC keeps saying it's spyware!

Any help? Thanks.

As I am,
Sonseeahray

It contains an optional sponsor which is not spyware. It is classified as adware.

The adware consists of a browser toolbar, desktop icons, and new favorites. There is nothing harmful included with Messenger Plus!.

Take a look at:

The MSAS petition has been sent
Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back!

Search 'spyware'

But, wait...

I received an update when I had it, that said Messenger Plus! needed to be updated, and when it was finished, it left bad links and pictures all over my desktop..

What caused that?

Thanks again,
Sonseeahray

You accidentally installed the sponsor.
Uninstall and reinstall and be careful and click no.

Oh...Ok..

But will my Microsoft Anti-Spyware still detect it as spyware/adware?

Thanks,
Sonseeahray

Take a look to Matty's post, yes, MSAS will still detect Messenger Plus!, but only as adware not spyware

Thats a rip off.

I'm not allowed to install anything that Microsoft AntiSpyware detects as adware or spyware...

:( I'm really sad.

Who's stopping you? Just add it to your ignore list and it won't detect it.

But, adding it to the ignore list is a good idea.......

Yes, and it detects the installer, not the exe itself.

I always run Microsoft AntiSpyware after I download anything so my PC don't get infected. . .
I just got Microsoft antispyware recently and was totally crushed to find out it detected Messenger Plus! dangerous...

My parents told me to uninstall it because it was dangrous...so I did.

:(

If you read the links in my post you will realize that Microsoft Antispyware was falsly detecting Messenger Plus! as a dangerous threat.

RE: Spyware ??? by Sonseeahray on 02-25-2006 at 04:15 AM

I did read them..

Well, I'll give Messenger Plus! another try....(and add it to the ignore list..:D)
:| Just wait till my parents find out I re-installed it :o

Yep, don't worry about it. Just refuse the installation of the sponsor when you install Messenger Plus! and you'll get nothing but Messenger Plus! installed. You can then just tell MSAS to ignore the program.

Instructions will be followed.. :D
