also, if theres somebody out there with a fast connection to the internet, and would like to download a file for me then send it to me, please PM me

Are you sure you're using the ports you're using open on your router / firewall ?

You don't need to open a port to use bittorrent. However, if you don't, you won't be able to connect to as many people (as long as one person in a pair has the port open, you'll be able to connect to each other) and either way, that wouldn't cause connection errors to the tracker.
RE: torrents? by NiteMare on 03-12-2006 at 10:22 PM

utorrents better,
a. i actualy got a signal, a craptacular one, but a signal nonethe less(like .1kb/s)
b.segosa provided a link so :P

well then use utorrent and forward its port :D

(look in the options -- i think the port it uses is random when you install it)

You sure your ISP isn't capping BitTorrent traffic? If it is, upgrade to uTorrent 1.5 and enable encryption in the options. See if that helps.
RE: torrents? by lizard.boy on 03-13-2006 at 12:17 AM

i'd recommend using some obscure port number for your bittorrent traffic, ie the month of your birth + the day + some random numbers to make a 5 digit port number and then forwarding that port to your pc through your router.

and it dosnt have to be 5 digits, but there less freqently blocked by isps.

if you wanna test your connection speed you could download a linux iso over bittorrent, ubuntu's dapper drake flight 5 was just released and should be being seeded like mad. you dont need to use it but it may show the speed you can achive.

RE: torrents? by Jhrono on 03-13-2006 at 12:26 AM

He's telling you to download an highly seeded file to test your connection at full power

RE: torrents? by NiteMare on 03-13-2006 at 01:35 AM

RE: torrents? by Pyroteq on 03-13-2006 at 02:38 AM

These sites should help:

P2p Forums
Portforward.com - A router specific guide on port forwarding

Personally i use Bitcomet, i have also used the official client, Utorrent and Azureus, i like bitcomet best. You can get bitcomet from download.com
A step by step guide on how to configure bitcomet

Hope that helped

RE: torrents? by NiteMare on 03-13-2006 at 03:00 AM

thanks, but utorrent already configures the router for you, i found that out a few houres ago

RE: torrents? by rav0 on 03-14-2006 at 06:14 AM

Try manually configuring your router.

µTorrent is supposed to automatically configure your router, but there's no guarantees that it happened.

In my case, to let µTorrent configure my router, first I need to configure my router to let µTorrent configure it.

Instead of letting µTorrent automatically configure my router (enabling UPNP), I've just manually configured my router.

RE: torrents? by Pyroteq on 03-14-2006 at 06:43 AM

Guess you got lucky then. So is it working for you now?

is it working?, technicaly yes, practicaly...no, its going so slow, its almost going backwards
RE: RE: torrents? by rav0 on 03-14-2006 at 07:16 AM

Did you try what lizard.boy suggested?

Get a torrent which you know is massively seeded (for example a big name Linux distribution). Try downloading that, and see if you get better speeds.

thats Nice of a progeram to do that but security wise its not that safe IMO,
RE: torrents? by Pyroteq on 03-14-2006 at 09:45 AM

get a torrent you know is well seeded to see if its just the torrents you pick.

And whats your connection speed?
Remember that if you have a 256k Connection, your max speed shouldnt be 256k. its more like your speed divided by 9.

So if you have 256k your speed would be 28kb/s give or take a few, and for 512k it would be 56kb/s give or take.

Although in saying that i have an uncapped connection (Fast as my areas network will carry me at the time) My average speed is about 50-100k but i have been up to 6 and 800..

i don't know if this is relevent, but i've downloaded stuff before, like from limewire, or just straight off the internet, and i've clocked it getting up in to the 300's
