A-Patch crashes WLM :( by YourNeibour on 03-13-2006 at 09:51 PM

Is it just me or does the beta of A-PATCH for WLM crash WLM 8?   I installed it and now WLM doesn't sign in :(

Works like a dream for me! But I've seen evidence of the opposite on the A-Patch forum

Is this an A-Patch related problem? Or are you in the wrong thread?

I might be wrong but initially arent we supposed to run WLM and MP!L (or any other beta whilst testing) without any addon's or patches ?

You are correct.
But i figure removing a few really annoying ads isnt going to prevent me from finding bugs, and isnt going to screw up messenger. And yeah its against the code of conduct and all but isnt it against it to patch messenger anyways even if we arnt beta testing?

Actually it could hamper your tests. You never know if whats actually causing the bug :)

Those arent ideal conditions for testing :P Its common for all testing that your products should be standard and un-patched :)

i agree, i haven't patched my WLM because doing so, would change WLM even ever so slightly, thus you can't fully test it with out being able to say "could this be because of the patch?"

its kind of like what poeple say about plus! some times:
"do you have any plugins running, if so, try deactivating them"

Actually I disagree, if we find a conflict it is a good idea for Patchou to fix and if you do find a bug e.g. a design clicth/ something not hooking right etc, uninstall the patch you are using and see if the bug still occurs. This way Patchou can make fixes instead of releasing a new version when it is offical.

As for patching the chances of effecting it is close to 0.

Anyway, back to the thread, a certain feature could cause this problem with each new version of Windows Live Messenger hex locations are changed alot and ahamd may of missing something simple ;)
