SQM Files? by Pyroteq on 03-16-2006 at 11:56 AM

Every time i sign into WLM, or at least thats what i think it is.. A SQM File appears in C:/

eg

sqmoopt00.sqm
sqmoopt01.sqm
sqmoopt02.sqm

etc..

They are all only 1kb and contain the following jibberish:

MSQMx       l¼'c   |                                   à4÷YíHÆ€<"ZíHÆü%¿£gyù\öÞ7ˆ›þÚ$ ŒyŸ5(]ÁBœÙ                    l                       o   x          cêç    p          D  œ2    q   x                  º   ÿ

Does anyone know what they are, And if they are safe to delete?

And does anyone know how to prevent them from appearing?

Thanks

They are Windows Live Messenger Log Files(Stands for Service Quality Monitoring files). They are safe to delete, but it is unsure on how to stop them from appearing.

I think if you use the final version, and not a beta. They may stop producing?
also try unchecking the customer experience program option that can be found under Tools->Options :)

Good luck

Software Quality Metrics data collection files are not nessecairly related to Windows Live Messenger. They can be made by other MS related products too.

If you click Help in MSN Messenger Main Window then click on Help Improve Windows Live then put a tick in I don't want to participate right now then click OK it will stop writing the .sqm files to your hard drive and they are safe to delete also. ;)
