From Here: http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua...outside&ed=weapons

it says (buttom of page) "In addition, as no one under the age of 18 is permitted to use the PayPal service, regardless of the jurisdiction, under no circumstances shall the use of PayPal be permitted by persons under the age of 18."

I need it to recieve and to send some money to some people. So when you sighned up with your credit/debit card, all the money u recieved went into the card? and all the money you sent came out of your card?

A debit card is just like a bankcard where you go to an atm and withdraw money right?

it is linked to your card. but money that you recieve goes into your paypal account. to transfer it to your account you need to choose the option to do that, and then wait about 7 working days for the money to appear in your bank account. If you send money, it will take it from your papyal account first and then from your bank account but without any delay. and if you want to transfer money to your paypal account from your bank account, again you will need to wait about 7 working days for it to be complete

Thanks for your help, but paypal is cheaper in fee's
RE: Paypal account by Reaper on 03-16-2006 at 12:56 PM

a debit card is linked to the money you have in your account. so if you use your debit card, money from your account is taken. if you have no money in your account then you cant use your debit card

a credit card is when you are given a spending limit and it must be paid back

You can't use your keycard (I'm assuming you know what I mean as you're Australian) with Paypal. (In Australia at least). You can only use actual credit cards, which you're not old enough to have.

You can add your Australian bank account, it generally takes a few days to add, then it takes a few days for transactions to be processed to and from it (3-4).

They put the age restriction up there because it is illegal to use such a service without being over that age. As you'll see, you are limited to the types of accounts you have at the bank at the moment because you aren't 18 yet - you can't have overdraft, raise your daily limit etc.

PayPal isn't a service for kids to use - things can go wrong, people can get into your account (and especially with being able to draw funds directly from your account using PayPal - you may not notice until the contents of your bank account is gone).

I'd recommend not signing up for it until you're of a legal age to sign up for it.

Just because people haven't been caught (which some have), doesn't make it right to sign up, or reason to question why they put the age restriction there in the first place.

They can't minors buy pornographic material (legally) or drink (legally)? Same sort of situation.

RE: Paypal account by Discrate on 03-16-2006 at 01:38 PM

Well, we are not really kids... i think they should make the age limit 16 at the most.

RE: Paypal account by surfichris on 03-16-2006 at 01:44 PM

You're a minor - which is the word I should have possibly used instead.

So they should make it so that at 16 you should be able to have a credit card too then?

That two but you have to have parents consent. I know heaps of people's parents who give them credit cards and puts a limit on it so the person dosent spend to much. These days teens are shopping more.:P
RE: Paypal account by surfichris on 03-16-2006 at 01:54 PM

Minors cannot have a credit card in Australia. All they can have is a card which is linked to their parents, and 16 is the minimum age for that.

yer but im saying parents put credit cards in there name and then give it to there children and im saying the limit for owning your own credit card should be the age of 16.

Do 16 year olds have financial management skills? I bet the majority of them have less than $20 in the bank, and that would be with the job they currently have - if at all.

How do you expect a teenager who earns maybe a few thousand per year to be able to support a credit card with a monthly limit of $1,000? (minimum limit for a Visa/Mastercard in Australia).

They can't financially support themselves without their parents.

How do you expect them to pay it all back and not be in debt?

A credit card is credit, you don't need the money at the time to use it - which is one of the major reasons alot of people buy a credit card (that and most are accepted internationally now). The other would be that you don't have to pay right now (so to speak) so you still have money in the bank to waste..

Quickly, before you think about it, you'll be screwed. You will owe money to the bank for the credit card transactions and you'll also be changed interest on top of that.
