sorta seems possible. by [MR] on 03-16-2006 at 04:01 PM

I was thinking and I thought it would be cool if you could install windows xp or pocket pc on an ipod.  I looked through google and couldnt really find anything about my topic.  It sorta seems possible but not really.  Then again there wouldn't be a keyboard but you would use the jog wheel as the touch pad. :S confusing but would be awesome if it was possible.

Maybe windows 95 or something would work better ;)

It all depends on the power of the components, for example i doubt an ipod could handle XP :P

WTF? It could be possible, but.. how would you select your username/password to log into windows? And how would you enter the CDKEY?

Probably it's possible copying a whole W95 partition with the operating system into the IPod's partition... this is just theory...

Ask Shawnz, he managed to get Windows 95 on his PSP :P

No :dodgy:

It wouldn't be that simple, how would the ipod know how to boot it? how would the ipod know how to run the kernel, you'd need to get an emulator to allow the instructions that windows uses to be used on an ipod

Well, I don't know about Windows, but Linux is available for 1st, 2nd and 3rd iPod generations...

Damn you Mike :P I was just about to say that ...
Anyway I don't think it would be possible as it would at least a 100mhz proccesor to run properly, And to be honhest there would be NO point in installing it as you wouldnt have a keyboard and u would be limited so much.
I'd go for linux

RE: sorta seems possible. by DJeX on 03-17-2006 at 08:27 PM

Ermm yea, It's not possible. The processor in an Ipod is only 32 mhz thats not even enough to run 95. But! It may run windows 1, 2 or maye even windows 3.1 :P

I use iPod Linux (Y) and that works great.
