Does anyone know if there is an add-in or setting in Outlook 2003 that turns on the You have new mail notification so that when I get new mail a windows pops-up with a little preivew of it?  I've seen it in outlook but have no clue how to turn it on or what i need to install.

"Tools" menu, "Options", "Preferences" tab, "Email Options..." button, "Advanced Email Options..." button -- everything relating to the notifications is there, in the "When new items arrive in my Inbox" section.

Is your Outlook configured to check for new mail automatically, every so often?  If not and you only get new messages when you manually click "Send / Receive", you are not going to get the alerts either.

If you have any rules for processing incoming mail, such as moving it automatically to different folders, you will not get alerts for the processed messages by default -- you need to edit each rule and add "display a Desktop Alert" to the rule's actions.

Finally, in case that wasn't obvious, Outlook's alerts only work while Outlook is open.  If you want something to tell you about new mail when Outlook is not open, you will need a third party mail checker.

You can set  Msgplus' pop3 notifications to respond to your pop mail.. and set it to open outlook when you click on the toast.
