Online Radio Questions by DJKAL on 03-30-2006 at 08:01 PM

Hi,
I am considering setting up an online radio and would like some information and help.

First of all, what is the best software to use?
    a) to play the music through.
    b) to send the information to my server.

I would like the radio playing through Windows Media Player (on the listeners side) and if possable through the website.

any help from people who know about this kind of stuff would be greatly appreciated.

PS: i may have more questions soon :$

To play the music through, you could simply use the ShoutCAST plugin included with Winamp.  (Which handles sending it and playing the music through.)

You should install a ShoutCAST server so you can send the information to the ShoutCAST server, which resends it into the listeners, usually the ShoutCAST server is over a fast internet line.  ShoutCAST does support listening over Windows Media Player.

Shameless plug:  I have a dedicated server in Dallas, TX if you would like to host it for a reasonable price.

Use SAM Broadcaster and Shoutcast/Icecast ;)

SAM Broadcaster is not free, but you can always "buy" it (if you know what I mean... :P)

You can add me at MSN for more details :)

By the way, you should have a good upload speed to support more listeners on a good quality.
You should go to http://testmy.net (or any other site that can measure your upload speed) and take the smart upload speed test, and post the results here :)
