Well.. let's just say I want to break my creative zen.. but, I mean, fuck up it's firware, so it just doesn't work. I don't want to manually break it.. or damage it's appearence, just want to fuck what's inside of it. The firmware..

How do I do that? :$

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Supersonicdarky on 03-31-2006 at 03:11 AM

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Curtis on 03-31-2006 at 05:54 AM

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Pyroteq on 03-31-2006 at 06:09 AM

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by DJKAL on 03-31-2006 at 07:13 AM

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Menthix on 03-31-2006 at 02:57 PM

What good will warranty give you? You have a working mp3 player now > you break it > you need to send them the broken one > wait > wait some more > you get a new onbe back... Brings you back at the first step. Or did i miss something?

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by markee on 03-31-2006 at 04:30 PM

You could always put it near some strong magnets, it'll wipe everything off it.  Or possibly format the drive.

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by hypedupmonkey on 03-31-2006 at 04:37 PM

I'm like everyone else here, very confused.
You want to break it to get the warranty and get a new one...?
Why get a new one, when that works fine?

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by prashker on 03-31-2006 at 05:52 PM

Alby probably means that he wants to exchange the "broken one" for a working one...and the working one comes with a warranty :)

He wants to break it because his warranty is gone and if something ACTUALLY goes wrong :P warranty to the rescue :)

That depends on the company policy. I know companies who only give 3 weeks extra warranty on replacements... a lot even don't extend warranty at all.

I think it's lame to break your hardware on purpose anyway. But IF you're gonna do it... make sure yiu will actually get your warranty renewed. Because just a few weeks or less isn't worth it.
RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Apatik on 03-31-2006 at 07:02 PM

moreover, if you damage the firmware intentionally, it will be noticed and i don't know if you'll get a replacement or anything...

but well, i don't know why you wanna break it anyway so...

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by albert on 03-31-2006 at 08:09 PM

Storry is this guys.. :

I got a zen micro 5gb with a 3 years extended warrenty with Bestbuy.. not that exact hdd mp3 player is discontuned.. if it breaks, they have to replace it, with the one that is the closest to it : 8gb zen micro photo..

so yeah.. u see what im trying to do..? :P

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Menthix on 03-31-2006 at 08:38 PM

Or...

- Creative just fixes your player (while you need to wait a few weeks without any player).
- Creative sends you a refurbished model or one they still have on stock.
- They find out you messed with it and you don't get anything.

... But you could try it i guess.

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Apatik on 03-31-2006 at 08:48 PM

i bet on the third solution *-)

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by ~INVASION~ on 03-31-2006 at 08:59 PM

i droped my camera BY ACCIDENT, the lens was so messed up and was just not working at all, lines in the lens and everything, i told em its makin funny colours and lines everywhere, they sent me a new one no questions asked, i love hp :)

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Apatik on 03-31-2006 at 09:31 PM

yeah, but you can't mess up a firmware by accident do you? ^^

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by tony on 03-31-2006 at 09:33 PM

grab a glass, fill it with water, put your player in it, take it to the freezer, wait a few hours, and let it dry :O

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by brian on 03-31-2006 at 11:36 PM

Download new firmware.  Upgrade firmware, it says "Do not unplug."  But who cares, unplug!

Let me guess, you bought it from Future shop?

Nop, the warrenty is with the store (best buy) therefore they're the one in charge.

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Voldemort on 04-01-2006 at 03:04 AM

The geeks will figure out what you did.
I had warranty with a camera, and it was inspected before being replaced.

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Pyroteq on 04-01-2006 at 04:26 AM

Dont put it in water, if they take it apart they will be able to see the water marks on the chips and realise that it was your fault.

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by Voldemort on 04-01-2006 at 04:34 AM

I think nvez's option is the best.

RE: How To Crash An Mp3 Firmware? by B3N_H4M1D on 04-03-2006 at 07:42 PM

go on a p2p eg limewire and download a virus then put it on to your mp3 ;) my m8 done this to his 4gb ipod mini and they sent him a 40gb video ipod!! or defragment it.

random note: ipods are only made to last for 1 year!! "ACCIDENTLY (6)" defrag it or put a virus on it that for some strange reason called Candy Shop :D

99% Of all viruses are not written for a mobile player OS and will have no effect. IF a virus screws up your player it will be fixed by just formatting the disk.

Defragmenting a disk doesn't hurt it. Defrag was actually invented to optimise harddisk and that is exactly what it does.

Bullshit. Care to tell us where you base that on?

Why Do They Only Give You A 1 Year Garentee If It Lasts Longer?

I've got a Bang & Olufsen TV, a great brand, with a 5 Year warranty for 10 years now.. Oh wait, maybe I should throw it in the garbage since it isn't supposed to last longer than the warranty..

:dodgy:

because it is meant to last 1 year and 1 month, hence the last month when it plas up is void from warranty and out of their orblems :refuck:
if it only lasted a yer and so did the warranty then they wuld be reaplceing them all! :O

Your mate might have been able to crash the player. But any tech guy at the store with some brains would be able to fix this. It's just a matter of formatting the disk, maybe a master reset. Even PCs (where those viruses are actually built for) won't be damaged on a hardware level from any virus.... You will never need to buy a new PC because you had a virus on your PC, same goes for mobile players. You just had luck if the store gives you a new player for that.

I don't know why others say that. Worst case scenario you would need to re-format your player's drive after a defrag. Just like the virus thing.

1 year is the standard warranty for almost every electric device. How long your warranty lasts has nothing todo with how long the actual product lasts. I have keyboards for example that had only 1 year warranty too, no way those things were build to only last one year. Some of them are over 10 years old now.
