sounds like your pc is overheating. download CPUCool to check the CPU temperature

once you have downloaded it, post what the temperature is to determine whether overheating IS the problem and not something else

Hi,

There can be many causes for the computer restarting and figuring it out may take some time and work.  You didn't say what version of Windows you have, so I am going to assume XP.

The first thing I'd like you to try is click the "Start" button, right-click "My Computer", click "Properties", click the "Advanced" tab, and then click "Settings" under "Startup and Recovery".  Under "System Failure", uncheck the "Automatically restart" check box if it is checked.  Click "Ok" twice to save the change.

This by itself won't fix anything, but will stop Windows from automatically rebooting on blue screen error messages (often called "BSOD" -- blue screen of death).  On a fast computer, this happens so quickly you may never even see any blue on the screen.

If this is the case, next time the error message will stay up until you restart the computer yourself.  Write down what it says, post it, and we will go from there.

If the computer continues to reboot without any sort of message, it is almost certainly a hardware problem, possibly overheating as someone suggested.  Take the cover off your computer, turn it on and verify that all fans you can see inside are spinning.

Also, the power supply has a fan in it too, usually blowing air out in the back -- make sure that is working as well (you should be able to feel the air flow on your hand).

then if so that is just an advertisement, it has nothing to do with downloading cpu cool

Here is a direct link for CPUCool.

That isn't the problem tho, (well I doubt it is). Overheating will cause your computer to shutdown and not reboot. Do as Adeptus said and disable autorestart. When you get the blue screen right it all down on a piece of paper and post it on the board (not it will be long.)

I had this problem. I replaced my Hard Drive cable and everything was fine again. It can be a large number of things.

ya this is the same problem i had with TylerG's computer.  Visit this thread and look for answers. http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=56...d=607797#pid607797

although i never posted the real out come (since I figured it out on IRC) the problem was simple:  The heat sink braces fell out and the heat sink would fall off the processor.  I fixed it by getting the metal part of two clothes pins to use a braces since the old ones broke.

i had this problem not long ago, i think it was caused by WLM as when i switched to MSN it was fine and when i was offline but as soon as i signed in it re-booted my PC  (or within 5 minutes max),
anyway - i did a system format and re-installed WLM with share folders off and got my mate to delete the files out of it and then i didnt get the problem and *touch wood* havent had probles since ( and i use both the share folders and WLM)
so i think it was just a corrupt file somewhere,
maybe a system format is to drastic for you? - but it's my security ( "it dont work:'( - il format it :cheesy:") yer - sad i know, but it has worked with most problems including graphics card problems and reboot problems (this  one) and a few others.
anyway, if it isnt to much hassle for you and nothing else works just try a format.

This can be caused by many things.. This used to happen to me when I only had 512 Mb of RAM.. When I upgraded to 1Gb everything became normal.. Or maybe, it was just a coincidence .
