Outlook Express instead of going to hotmail by alebowgm on 04-04-2006 at 03:44 AM

Is there a way to get Plus! to automatically load my Outlook Express when I want to write a new email instead of going to hotmail?

Nope: 'tis a limitation.

You sure? I somehow did this on my laptop, but I cant figure it out. Actually, come to think of it, my laptop MSN is not an @hotmail or @passport email address, it is my own custome email address, maybe it is automatically set to do it this way?

Yes, that's correct. .NET Passport e-mail addresses (@hotmail, @msn .etc) go to Hotmail, because that is where the emails are.

With a custom e-mail address, the e-mails arn't in Hotmail, so it opens the default e-mail client, which is usually Outlook Express.

To change the default e-mail client, you can go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs and change it from there.

Right, but I want my main computer which uses a @hotmail address to automatically load up my Outlook Express (I have the DAP service, which allows my hotmail to run in Outlook and Outlook Express)

Are you a subscriber of MSN Hotmail Plus, I thought it was only possible with that?

Yes, I am. So instead of being forced to get web based, I want the ability to do it in my outlook.

We understand your problem, but as far as I am aware of, there are no plug-ins which opens Outlook Express instead of Hotmail. I'm quite sure it's possible though, I'll have a look around for you.

An alternative would be to have Outlook Express in the Quick Launch toolbar (next to the Start button) or as a shortcut on your desktop.

    * MSN Dial-up
