You can't have animated display pictures that way. Only ones that will work are the ones by bluemountain etc. This has to do with how DDPs (Dynamic Display Pictures) work (expensive licences, stamps in registry etc etc...very technical).

However, you may care to know you can set up a slideshow, to change your display picture every certain amount of seconds. It is called, Display Picture Manager 2 and it is by Destruction.

You can download a copy here. Still I don't find it is what you are really after but it is the closest thing you can find. :) It is not a Messenger Plus! Plugin but a MSN Messenger add-on. I also think it may work with Windows Live Messenger. :P

Which, IIRC, are Flash files, and signed for authenticity.

Where did i say they were .gif files? Anyways if you click the link "very technical" in my previous post you will see it all explained.

I never said you did: I was just saying they were Flash.
Could have worded it better, granted.

Why not get a plugin to patch the DLL in memory that checks the authentication and thus allowing us to run custom Flash files?

It would be a useful feature for Messenger Plus.
Granted, the patch would have to be a memory only one and would have some restrictions of it's own (Safe ActionScripting etc, etc.)
RE: How to Display .Gif file in DP* by aNILEator on 04-18-2006 at 10:29 PM

safe actionscripting sounds impossible :-P, someone could just spawn loads of pop ups as that is a 'safe code' to use for example, yes a patched version exists somewhere but nothing exists for it at all

RE: How to Display .Gif file in DP* by Delphi Thunderbolt on 04-19-2006 at 08:52 AM

I mean by "safe" actionscripting is that some statements (like getURL) are disabled.
