Ok, i have a shit bug where every conversation i open, the font size is set to 10. I want font size 8, i've tried setting it, closing all convo windows, then closing the one i set it in, then restarting msn. tried reinstalling. tried uninstalling, deleting the app data folder and removing registry entries.

it STILL happens, anyone know what to do? it's the most annoying fucking bug i've ever had, size 10 is ugly =p

or make a patch/plugin to change font size to 8 everytime a convo opens ;p

Might be stupid to suggest, but...
Convo Window > Tools > Textsize

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\PerPassportSettings\<msnID>\IM Text Size

Change it by altering the setting in a Messenger conversation itself:
Tools > Textsize >
* Largest (= in registry: 04 00 00 00)
* Larger (= in registry: 03 00 00 00)
* Medium (= in registry: 02 00 00 00)
* Smaller (= in registry: "IM Text Size" is deleted = default setting)
* Smallest (= in registry: 00 00 00 00)

Also the registry setting "IM Format" is related to this. This registry setting contains more detailed 'subsettings' (This also changes when you select the Format Icon from the format toolbar in a Messenger conversation).

er, it just randomly fixed itself... =/

Cookie is right, the IM Text Size does have to do with this.

This is what I did to see what was going wrong on my machine:

1. Exit Live Messenger.

2. Deleted the entire "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\PerPassportSettings\<msnID>\" tree.

3. Restart Live Messenger. Keep regedit open to see changes as you change the preferences.

4. Set Font=Verdana; Bold, Size=8, Color=Gray. When I changed the font size and style the "IM Format" and "IM Text Size" values got created.

5. Open a chat window. "IM Text Size" gone! It was as if the Window open event waxed it.

Not knowing if this was a recurring issue, I recreated the "IM Text Size" Binary key with value "00 00 00 00".

Opened another window, key still there.

Exit Messenger, start Messenger, open chat window, key still there.

Changed font="Tahoma" keeping all other constant. Open new chat window. IM TEXT Size gone!

WHATS CAUSING THE PROBLEM: This behavior is observed any and everytime you change the font/size/style/color (using either  Tools->Options or Font settings in chat window). Seems like when you apply new changes, the IM Text Size key is discretely removed.

I didn't solve this problem. Could you maybe help me a bit more?
I went to the regedit and everything... and made the IM Text Size... it's just not keeping my text size at 8. =\

Sure...please tell me what you did.

Here is what I would ask you to do:

1. Set your font properties (Via Tools->Options) the way you want them to be.
2. Open a new chat window. Verify that the font size has been reset to 10. All other font properties (font, weight, color) will be as you had set in step 1. Close this chat window.
3. At this point start regedit and navigate to the specified key. You will notice that there is no "IM Text Size" value there. You will have to create it. Create a new Key called "IM Text Size" of Binary type and set its value to "00 00 00 00".
4. Open a chat window and verify that your font size is now 8.
