Firefox Ads - Wheee! by aNILEator on 04-15-2006 at 06:43 PM
As some of you may know, firefox has been doing a competition to create an advert for possibly use on television
www.firefoxflicks.com has them all on there
but my favourite is a toss up between Wheee! and Billy's Browser
Wheee! - http://www.firefoxflicks.com/flick/?id=19542
Billy's Browser - http://firefoxflicks.com/flick/?id=19541

Billy's Browser is definitely the better one .
Wheee! seems more of an internet mockup video to me that people would laugh at... Billy's browser is more professional or whatever =D
RE: Firefox Ads - Wheee! by aNILEator on 04-15-2006 at 07:01 PM
i know but i can watch wheeeeeeeeeeeee over and over again as a viral video billy's browser is more TV watchable with some tweaks
i wish they'd have added AOL to wheeee
RE: Firefox Ads - Wheee! by Plik on 04-15-2006 at 07:06 PM
Wheee made me laugh more than billys browser , but i agree on the fact that billys browser is a better advertiser.
I still prefered wheee

LMAO, the Wheee one is for sure my fav so far.
RE: Firefox Ads - Wheee! by aNILEator on 04-15-2006 at 08:44 PM
wheeee would be great with the tagline
'Fed up of web annoyances? Download Firefox now'
or something similar

They could'nt use weeeeeeeeeee I think. Because it mentions other products and for anyone who knows nothing about firefox or web browsing it just is going to be confusing. Still the best one

ditto
i love the weeeeee
RE: Firefox Ads - Wheee! by aNILEator on 04-15-2006 at 09:00 PM
the majority of people don't know what 'web browser' is anyway
they think its an "internet explorer" and that AOL, or Internet Explorer are the only one's
Billy could be great, but with tweaking WEEEEEE could really catch on as it hits a silly spot
RE: Firefox Ads - Wheee! by tomfletcherman on 04-16-2006 at 02:17 PM
The ironic thing is that all the videos flashed black video black video etc for me in firefox, so then I had to open it in IE, and then it told me to click to load an active x control, which would happen whether I pressed ok or crossed the warning message off... ¬.¬

The videos work fine here tom
I love whee! but it's not good for Television really. I think the other one is good. It could be a bit better with a few more details about firefox itself though.

Wheee! for the win!
but to be on tv Billy's Browser would be best
RE: Firefox Ads - Wheee! by user35870 on 04-16-2006 at 02:52 PM

Am I the only one who thinks Billy's browser isn't that great?
The Weeeee one made me laugh like hell. Is very simply yet very reconizable because of the brand reconition concept. Though, it is correct that this can't be used as an official ad (because of trademarks and all). It also brings other products down, instead of bringing FF up, which is not a good thing todo for a commercial. In fact it wouldn't be allowed as an ad...
The Billy's browser one "looked" more professional and "TV-like", but isn't that great at all. It seriously lacked a punch line and an end. It isn't orginal, not funny (at least not funny funny, it's just grin-funny) and lacks a good point and a good end (which is all what advertising is about; punch lines). After all his stunts (it indeed started good), it's just a very lame and stupid: "yeah, then he discovered FF.... the end"... If it wasn't for trademarks and stuff Weeeee would have 50 votes more from me than Billy's Browser...
Home Alone is waaaaaaaay better than Billy's browser. It builds up as a true commercial and has a very strong and clear end. (although it only focusses on one aspect of the browser which may not appeal to everyone or isn't most importantly to everyone; especially considering that a browser is used mostly by 'children', not parents).
my 1 cent
EDIT: re-editing this page and I just realize that I clearly remember home alone's end and the "shut-up...pooof" of the Weeee. Can't even remember how the Billy's browser ended... (even when I watched it less than 5 minutes ago).
EDIT2: viewed them all... My vote would go to Sunday Morning. Maybe be a bit 'dry' or 'classic' for some, but it is the only one with everything in it which a true commerical needs. Can air immediatly...
(PS: funniest one still stays Weeee, but I don't consider it a commercial)

I agree with you cookie, the billy one isnt that great.
I really like Burned Home Alone and Sunday Morning.
All 3 are pretty fit for TV imho.
As for the ad putting down other browsers, afaik, its legal, many bug conglomerates do it all the time. Comparing their product with leading competitors.

But they don't say the name of the product.
They blur it, or just say "A popular bug conglomerate" (for example)
RE: Firefox Ads - Wheee! by CookieRevised on 04-16-2006 at 10:24 PM
Also, comparing is one thing (as it is a true factual list of things). Making fun of another product or insinuating they are crap is another thing...
RE: Firefox Ads - Wheee! by aNILEator on 04-16-2006 at 10:36 PM
Oh they must have added more to the site
i think everyone who's been with various computers and the internet for a while can relate to the characters in whee like safari and internet explorer
Burned was good, but might give the wrong impression about firefox
Sunday morning is good, advertises the clear private data (sure to be a popular one ) kinda reminded me of an ebay advert
I thought joyride was going to be good, but the punchlines made no sense really
Firefox Vs a Ninja was good for a grin
And i thought kitchen was quite good too,

I think they could because those arnt the exact logos
eg: on the Powergen advert it says officially cheeper than Gritish Bas (British Gas)
