Slow startup by Reaper on 04-18-2006 at 02:24 PM

What factors can affect how fast or slow your PC starts up. I've noticed that my PC takes about 10mins for everything to startup. I have chosen programs that i wanted to start when windows is started through msconfig and the programs i have now are essential. I know that having a different visual style can slow it down, (by different i mean not a windows default theme) but having the theme only made it slower by a few seconds compared to a windows default theme. What can i do to speed up the startup?

Defragment the harddisk and defragment Windows registry (Registry Compactor 1.1 or the new Registry Compressor).

Note that msconfig doesn't list in all cases all the startup entries.

You should use AutoRuns which lists all the possible startup entries :)

This program will show you EVERY possible startupline that windows can use... I found MANY dodgy programs with that on various computers where the user though he deleted everything and still some programs started up when they booted... So, just check it out...
