Would you want to know when your contacts were online? by Equin on 04-21-2006 at 01:36 PM

I've been thinking about building a website that allows you to track when your contacts were online and possibly some other things like what names they used. You'd have to upload your contact list to this website.
Would you find such a feature usefull, and why (not)?

probably not because it seems like an invasion of privacy which the "contacts" have no control over

Msgplus already has an Event log, that displays who signed in/out and who changed his/her nickname, status etc...

i dont really find a need for that site, moreover it will be hard to gain people's trust, and let them upload their contact list.

regards

The event log would be the same thing I suppose, however, you'd have to keep your computer on 24/7 to have it keeping track all the time.

I can't see it being very popular because of the invasion of privacy thing.

Not good idea,
this is giving away private details off people that could not of given their permission.
Also this could be another addition to plus!

thats contradicting! you're saying you dont want this feature on a website but saying you do want it in plus! and either way contact lists would need to be stored on a server.
no i odnt like this idea though, i wouldn't trust anyone enough with my contact list

I wouldn't use it because that means we have to upload all our contacts to your site and provide login info so you can keep track of our contacts 24/7. But then I still don't see how you will do this through a web based application. Unless you have a few spare computers lying around with a nice and fast internet connection to use as servers. There would also be connectivity problems. Once you sign on your account one computer then try to sign on with the same account on a different computer it automatically signs you out of the first computer. I can see this to be a problem since if you were planning on monitoring our contacts 24/7 because you would need to stay logged into our accounts then once someone logs in from there computer MSN disconnects from your site.

IMO Plus event logging is enough.... I mean.... if nothing else just lock your MSN while you're not around and it'll still record your logs.
