URGENT:Nickname Problem(Need help anyhow) by Felu on 04-30-2006 at 08:56 AM

Wlm- 8.0.0863.00

Whenever i change my nick, it reverts back to Nickname--__Days -__Hours.
This either happens while chatting or when signing in again.
I really need some help for it.

Edit; WLM-8.0.689

What plugins do you have installed ?

Did you try uninstalling wlm and plus, restarting then installing them again ?

Also note- now dont tell me to try Msn Messenger 7.5, ive tried it(and its in my 3rd post.

No other help :'(. Am i helpless:(. None of you can solve my problem^o).

WLM tends to do that. I get namechanges too from time to time...

I can't guarantee the following will work (seems to solve crashes too so who knows)...but this will totally clean out the listcache:

1. Delete the Listcache.dat file for all accounts that sign in to Windows Live Messenger on the computer:

a. Click Start and Run and type in CMD and hit Enter
b. At the command prompt, type CD\ and then press ENTER.
c. At the command prompt, type CD %appdata%\microsoft and then press ENTER.
d. At the command prompt, type CD "MSN MESSENGER" and then press ENTER.
e. At the command prompt, type DEL /s ListCache.dat and then press ENTER.

2. Delete the Windows Live Messenger Contacts Cache. Please note that you will lose your nickname settings when you perform this operation.

a. Sign out of Windows Live Messenger
b. Click Start and Run and type in:

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\ and hit Enter

c. This will open a new Windows Explorer window
d. In the window that opens double click on your Windows Live Messenger ID.
e. Double click on the Contacts folder.
f. Delete the two folders you see inside the Contacts folder.

Besides this i can only advice a fresh install of WLM..meaning:
- Uninstall
- reboot
- remove folder in program files folder pointing to it
- remove C:\Documents and Settings\<accountname>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\MSN ID Number
- reinstall

Good Luck! Post back if it helped...

You're only using WLM right? No add-ons, patches, scripts etc.?

If the answer to that is yes then there's one thing left to do, contact Microsoft about it at http://feedback.live.com

PLease post back their solution (if they have a working one).
