CPU fan help by DJKAL on 05-04-2006 at 06:23 PM

I have just started building my new computer and have wired the motherboard into the case and works fine.

though...
the CPU cooler fan is EXTRMELY loud!
i have found a few ALL at a price i am willing to pay.
can someone please help me to choose one that wil lkeep my processor cool (it is left on almost 24/7) and that will not make much noise.
any help will be great
the link to the PSU coolers i have found is :
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Cat...CPU_Coolers_1.html
also it needs to fit a pentium 4 processor
( i have the ASUS P4C800 deluxe motherboard)
thank you

What socket is the CPU, 478 Pin or 775 Pin

[Edit] I would go for Arctic Cooling. I have that fan for my CPU and its very quiet.

RE: CPU fan help by DJKAL on 05-04-2006 at 06:59 PM

478 socket

Check out eBay aswell.
eBay fans
RE: CPU fan help by DJKAL on 05-04-2006 at 07:08 PM

i have been inclined to go towards a CPU cooler which is piped to make my CPU cooler and better performance. has anyone used (or someone who knows more than i do) know one (on that site or for a similar price) which is quiet and high performing for 24/7 use?

thanks for your help REAPER, though the Artic Cooler fans are not piped and i dont want to buy an item like this off eBay.

is this one any good: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Cat...lermaster_122.html ?

What kind of CPU cooler do you have now, if you know?  Loud is subjective and it would help to know that.  Is it an Intel retail box one?

Zalman makes some good and very quiet CPU coolers, but they are not particularly cheap.  The one I linked you to is probably the one you would want and it usually retails for around USD $40.

Contrary to what the common wisdom suggests for other things, in CPU coolers, bigger usually means quieter.  That is because a large fan can deliver the required air flow at lower RPM than a small one.

P.S.  You might want to do some reading on this site.

RE: CPU fan help by DJKAL on 05-04-2006 at 07:28 PM

it is not standard it is the Thermaltake Spark 7 Extreme Heatsink

RE: CPU fan help by Adeptus on 05-04-2006 at 07:42 PM

The Spark 7 has a reputation for sounding like a jumbo jet on takeoff, so it shouldn't be too hard to improve on it.

If you have the Intel retial box cooler sitting around somewhere, you may want to try it, by the way -- they are relatively quiet and work just fine.

RE: CPU fan help by Adeptus on 05-04-2006 at 07:58 PM

I think that is a great choice -- in particular because this guy apparently has installed it on P4C800 and doesn't mention any fit problems (often an issue with large aftermarket coolers).

RE: CPU fan help by DJKAL on 05-04-2006 at 08:02 PM

thanks :D
* DJKAL demands my money back of my brother to purchase this and the rest of the things needed/ wanted :@

only one thing im wondering about:

quote:
The alu fanholder is a bit loose on top
will this be a problem atall?

RE: CPU fan help by Adeptus on 05-04-2006 at 08:43 PM

I wouldn't worry about that -- it may be that way by design, and as long as it doesn't rattle or fall off, it will be fine.

RE: CPU fan help by DJKAL on 05-04-2006 at 08:45 PM

ok thanks :D
i will by that as soon as i have the money off of my bro or from work (hopefully very soon)
again thanks for your help :)

That is a VERY nice heatsync, it's nearly silent and uses TMD technology  for a more reliable and silent fan.

it is loud IMHO, but that is the only thing bad I can say. Sounds like a jet engine spooling up when you turn on the PC....

I bet you can find that fan in the UK. But it's your best bet if you want a quiet fan.

Hmm.  It'd seem that a lot of people who bought one disagree:

Would reccomend buying if you have a fan controller as the metallic whine goes away if turned down to about 4600-4800 rpms (temp at like 26C).

It seems that every other person who commented on it thought it was rather loud. Having read that (I (L) reviews!), I'd be reluctant to recommend it to someone who already has one loud fan and think DJKAL would be wise to stick with his first choice.

Of course, "loud" is subjective. :P

RE: CPU fan help by kao on 05-05-2006 at 05:42 AM

you could always go for a Vapochill cooler (apparently they're fucking awesome). Vapochill keep their shit cool, and they have ultra-low-noise ones aswell.

RE: CPU fan help by joemailey on 05-05-2006 at 09:04 AM

I recently got this one

http://www.mplex.com/cgi-bin/ccp51/cp-app.cgi?usr...HOME:comp%2Fhsf%2F

works with anything, i use it to cool my Intel P4 3.2GHz H/T

i got it because my old fan broke n made too much noise.

i run this fan on low when i not near PC (if i downloading tlkn on msn etc.) When i'm using intensive games(Counter Strike Source) depending on my room temprature i turn the fan up.

I'd recommand that one easy :-)

Enjoy.

Wow, I've been looking for that fan. I was looking for the Aeroflow, this seems to be the same thing, but without a name, just a model number. I decided to buy one after reading some good reviews of it (and for the uniqueness of TMD). I'd heard that it'd been discontinued.

Does anybody own one of these? Is it quieter than the stock Pentium 4 fan?

Also, if anybody else had recomendations for other quiet HSFs. As long as they cool as well as or better than stock, it's fine, I just want something quiet.
RE: CPU fan help by joemailey on 05-05-2006 at 12:42 PM

anything is quieter than stock fan u should get fan with speed control works wonders like the one i post oh and btw the one i posted was easiest fan to install lol

RE: CPU fan help by Apatik on 05-08-2006 at 12:05 AM

for thermalright, the xp-90 is very efficient and quite cheap, although you have to purchase a fan separately. i don't know what the new ultra-90/120 are worth.

RE: CPU fan help by Pyroteq on 05-08-2006 at 06:09 AM

This Is mine. Excellent fan.

Zalman's 7700 is just HUGE (really, I don't think it fits in every case) xD
