Help! MSN/Microsoft Down For Two Weeks in Illinois/Wisconsin Area (Yahoo "Funny") by Joe Bart on 05-09-2006 at 09:00 PM

Greetings All,

For the past two weeks, a friend of mine from Illinois and myself from Wisconsin have experianced what appears to be a MAJOR midwest server routing problem where MSN has been totally down as well as Microsoft's site.  We can't get updates, we can't do anything at these sites.  We get "Page can't be displayed errors"

This problem also occurs on several of our bookmarked sites as well.  75% or more of the sites that we frequent come up super fast.  This problem reoccurs for us every 2-3 months and than seems to resolve itself after about 48-72 hours.  Only this time, we have had downtime at several sites for two weeks.  Yahoo! has also been effected.  Sometimes it will not come up at all, sometimes certain features of Yahoo, such as e-mail will come up intermittently.  The link to Yahoo Messenger is totally down.

This recent shutdown has affected both of us in two different states and we are at our wits end.  Since we can browse some sites with no problems, we know that this is not an ISP issue.  Has there been any known server outages or routing outages affecting the Illinois/Wisconsin pathway that would cause this kind of conflict?  There is also no evidence of any malware on our computers.  We have lost a great deal of time and experianced a great deal of frustration.  What is causing this problem?  Was it an upgrade gone wrong?  A hacker that got into a mainframe network?  How long should we expect this to continue.? Does the recent merger of Yahoo/AT&T have anything to do with the problems at MSN?

My question basically is:  If this is a server routing problem affecting MSN, Microsoft, and selected other sites, what actions need to be taken before people affected by this shutdown are running again?  Any idea when this is going to be resolved?

Thank you.

Joe

Hello Joe,

I think you've got us confused with Microsoft. Messenger Plus is a popular add-on for Windows/MSN messenger. We have no direct affiliation with Microsoft other then Patchou writes Messenger Plus to work wtih Windows/MSN Messenger.

I would recomend contacting your ISP and seeing what they can do for you as it sounds like a problem on there end.

Best regards,
Wj
