Chatlog replacing old logfiles by blindwaves on 05-13-2006 at 02:39 AM

Messenger Plus! Version: 3.63.0.148
MSN Version: 7.5
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 with latest updates

Msgplus set to:

  • Not archive monthly logs (i.e All logfiles in the chatlog's root folder)
  • Encryption disabled

Scenario:
  • Root folder already has copies of chatlogs, hence already contain files which are like: johndoe@hotmail.com.txt
  • Msgplus detects that a file that it is suppose to log to already exist, hence naming it as johndoe@hotmail.com.txt.old.txt

Problem occurs when both of such files already exist. Hence when that happens, the johndoe@hotmail.com.old.txt file is being replaced by the contents of johndoe@hotmail.com.txt file and a new empty logfile is created.

This will happen if Msgplus is being reinstalled on a clean install of WinXP, and set to use back the old chatlog folder.

Will be great if Msgplus appends to existing logfiles instead of renaming it as .old.txt, or to have a numbered archiving system much like MSN Messenger's chat history archives. I had lost a good deal of my chatlogs due to this bug.
