RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by Supersonicdarky on 05-17-2006 at 11:38 AM

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by NiteMare on 05-17-2006 at 12:00 PM

well i have 2 drives that i use, so will instaling on my H:\ mess up the H:\ and its files at all?

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by Supersonicdarky on 05-17-2006 at 12:02 PM

i think it will, because u need to format before install, maybe you should install on a blank partition?

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by Reaper on 05-17-2006 at 12:03 PM

I would say, back up all of your stuff. Then format and install Vista. But then again, its upto you :P

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by NiteMare on 05-17-2006 at 12:12 PM

backing all my stuff is not an option... too much stuff

the only reason i have are the system requirements... i dont have the money to buy me a new computer... so i'll use my win xp for a loooooooooooooooooooong time :P

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by Matti on 05-17-2006 at 12:27 PM

Install it on a seperate drive, or make a new partition on your existing drive. I won't upgrade it, since it's still a BETA version and contains a bunch of unfixed bugs. And if you don't like it anymore, you just delete that partition! :D

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by NiteMare on 05-17-2006 at 12:34 PM

ok, then how do you create/delete partitions, how much space does that require, and are you able to access file across the partition?

i know i'm a noob:P

totally agree, all you have to do is read things about vista too know not to install it

how to Create Partitions
RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by xJ + on 05-17-2006 at 01:27 PM

Create a new partition! Yeah! Really. Ought to create one new one before installing windows vista.
WARNING:
due to the software being buggy, I dun recommemd you to upgrade though. It's better to reformat and install vista. If you don't have that many start up programs, you can upgrade, but if you do have lots of them, don't!
Here's my experience, I upgrade my XP to Vista, and cause my PC to overheat due to the many start up programs.
AND Check the RECOMMEMDED system requirements before installing Vista!

Use a hard disk menagement program. A PartitionMagic free trial is available.

Not much. You will need the space to split into the partitions you want to have, but the extra space you need on top of that is negligible.

Yes. As long as the operating system understands the file system of the partition (and somethimes when it dowsn't as well).

is it hard, or will my files apper in the C:\
RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by rav0 on 05-19-2006 at 11:05 PM

Each partition gets it's own drive letter in Windows (except when Windows doesn't understand the file system, in which case you will have to use a special program). For example, your current C:\ will stay as C:\, and the new partition will appear as D:\ (or another letter, because I expect that D is an optical drive).

I think it would be a bad choice to go to vista simply because you're having problems with your current computer. It's not going to make it any better, if anything it will make it worse as the specs needer are higher for Vista.

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by NiteMare on 05-19-2006 at 11:24 PM

hmm,  i think i'll try it, on a seperate partition

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by user27089 on 05-19-2006 at 11:49 PM

My mate at school was trying to install it at school today, Vista takes up like 7gbs of space alone, for me that would only leave like 60gb of programs... It's not worth it IMO.

7 gb, your kidding, wow, i'll go for beta 2 which is out soon
RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by can16358p on 05-20-2006 at 09:38 AM

Do not install Vista.
It has bad bugs.
I was thinking of formatting my main HD (it was slow) and tried the Vista Beta. It has good features, but besides;
It's unorganized. You hvae to search for years to find a simple option menu. They changed everything, and that's much worse than XP. Control Panel just "sucks". I was unable to find an option to turn off ClearType, which I hate, and which Vista uses not only on IE, on almost all over the interface.

My mouse cursor icon gone crazy using Vista, there are lots of compatibility issues as it's just a beta (even though I downloaded the latest beta driver for my nVIDIA geForceFX 5700 from nVIDIA's site for Vista.)

Final decision: Just wait for the official release.

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by andrewdodd13 on 05-20-2006 at 10:19 AM

I have to admit, I reckon Vista is actually slower than my full blown KDE interface. It's a total waste of RAM and CPU cycles... I mean, it's a PC. Who gives a crap if you can rotate windows or see through stuff.

Personally, if your PC is being problematic, I think going to vista would make it ten times worse. My advice would be to reinstall windows XP and if that doesn't work run a hardware scan of some description (memtest86 is a good place to start).

Besides, you can't get a legal copy of Vista atm anyway, can you?

RE: Vista: Yes or NO? by absorbation on 05-20-2006 at 10:37 AM

Meh, when Vista comes out I suggest getting a new PC. I mean alot of my hardware is probably outdated now, and it gives a chance to have a fresh start on a pc. :P

Then again, when vista comes out I will be on XP for many more months.
