Repair messenger, looks like the icon is generates by Windows, and not messenger itself. :P

It is a beta :)

If you want this to stop happening in the future, what you need to do is:

when installing a updated version, you must not overwrite.

What you must do is uninstall the previous version before installing. Therefor it leaves no chance for a file copying error like we see here.

If you have already installed the new version, and are having gui problems: A repair would be a good solution :)

Try deleting the C:\Documents and Settings\<u/n>\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db file.

It's marked as hidden and possibly system, so you'll need to show hidden files to be able to delete it. Oh, and it's probably a good idea to do it with MSN closed.

Uninstall Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger then go to C:\Program Files\ and delete the MSN Messenger folder.

Restart your computer, then re-download the version that you want to use and install it again.
