Msg + Windows Live Messenger crash by Lost-Prophet on 05-22-2006 at 02:41 PM

Hi. When I tried to go and use MSN 7.5 (with latest MSGPlus and Stuffplug-NG) I go this error:
To fix it I tried:
1) Uninstalling/Reinstalling (With MSG Plus and Stuffplug-NG)
2) Uninstalling/Reinstalling (Without MSG Plus and Stuffplug-NG)
3) System Restore
4) Uninstalling/Reinstalling (Inc removing reg entries + folder)
5) Installing Windows Live Messenger (also crashes in exactly the same way)

Anyone got any ideas? The last thing I ever done was add a few emotions into my MSN. How do I remove emotions and D.Ps even after uninstalling so MSN doesn't use them after reinstall? I have a feeling an emotion may be corrupt or something *-)

Here's the error I get when pressing debug:

I just undone the system restore and I noticed something I forgot to mention. I now have an extra boot option when I boot up (it's normal a choice between XP Pro and XP Home)
New boot option: (Backup Line) Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition?

It could be a virus, try a virus scan. Something hooking onto messenger totally wrong causing it to crash. :P

RE: Msg + Windows Live Messenger crash by Menthix on 05-22-2006 at 02:56 PM

Something you could try:
-1: Uninstall MSN/WLM and whatever MSN/WLM related plugins you have still installed.
-2: Delete MSN/WLM's registry keys
-3: Delete the C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger folder
-4: Go to "Start" > "Run..."
-5: Type in "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Microsoft" and press "OK". Leave %USERNAME% just like it is, it will automatically be replaced by your Windows username.
-6: A new window will open, delete the entire "MSN Messenger" there.
-7: Re-install MSN (or WLM if you wish) and see if it works.

I think you might have missed step 4/5/6 last time.

The uninstaller stopped responding :(.

RE: Msg + Windows Live Messenger crash by Lost-Prophet on 05-22-2006 at 03:18 PM

OK it kinda worked.. it loaded up and I was just configuring MSG Plus! and it all just disapeared... no error? I've done a virus/spyware scan and nutta

EDIT: Nop :( still crashing. Looks like a reformat :'(

RE: Msg + Windows Live Messenger crash by Lost-Prophet on 05-22-2006 at 03:27 PM

It's worse now. As well as crashing I keep getting connection errors (service unavailable). I think I need to reformat MSN has obviously completely f***** up my computer to the point where it's unrepairable :@:( *backs up documents*

Lost-Prophet are you using vista? - just wondered because of your theme in your screenshot, and I'm thinkin that may be whats causing your problem (doubtful but who knows)

Try delete your Messenger local files
1.Start>Run. Type "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft" and click OK.
2. Delete the two followings folders: Messenger and Windows Live Contacts

No such luck. Deleted all of them folders andmade no difference :(, thanks anyway. I think it may be corrupt registry or part of Windows damaged? I mean I've now totally removed MSN and it still dont work so I dont think MSN is faulty, its something else on my computer causing probs or hard drive damaged

I was having that same problem. I did a system restore to remove IE 7 and Media Player 11 and the problem went away. Im using Windows Live and it works fine after i removed IE 7.
