Part of your Messenger client cache may be corrupted.

To attempt to fix, close down Messenger if it's running, click Start, then
Run, and type the
following:
%userprofile%\contacts
and click OK.

If nothing appears in the folder, click the Tools menu, then Options, then
View tab, click
'Show hidden files or folders' and click OK. Once you are able to see the
folders,
right-click the one that corresponds to your Passport and choose Delete.

Next, click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

Then remove the corresponding folder again in this folder.

Then restart Messenger and try signing in again.

Stolen from TReKiE again :P

RE: Error Code 80004005 by Reload2 on 06-30-2006 at 01:53 PM

I guess some screenshots should help there.
Step-by-step explaination (Close your messenger before):
1. Click Start. Screenshot
2. Click Run Screenshot again
3. Type: "C:\Documents and Settings\<TYPE_YOUR_USERNAME_HERE>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts" Screenshot
Don't forget to replace <TYPE_YOUR_USERNAME_HERE> by your computer username!!!
4. Delete all the files that you see in that folder. Screenshot
And then you are done

msn Live error 80004005 [HELP FAST PLEASE] tried everything! by ktadie on 01-06-2007 at 11:47 AM

hey there guys, suddenly when i was on my msn live messenger i was logged off. i tried logging back on and it gave me the 80004005 error. i ran the troubleshooting and everythig was fine (green ticks on everything) i tried re-logging and it kept on logging.. until like 5mins, i pressed cancel and tried again and it gae me the error again..

i have tried almost everything i could think off;

re-installing, downloading the register messenger dll, l even logged on the normal messenger, and i could logg on there with no problems. i also logged on another account on live messenger and that worked fine also..

then i found a post here :

http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=60700&pid=667853

and tried everything there.. same problem. in my case i deleted:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger

maybe i have done something wrong with deleteing that. because the path where i installed my messenger is:

C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger

i dunno what to do :( and i am really desperate on getting back on..
i really hope some of you have some ideas

ty vm in advanced
¤ktadie
