World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-25-2006 at 12:37 AM

http://msig.info/worldcup/

World Cup Live 2006 is a script that can show the latest score from the World Cup, in your psm, in conversations and in your display picture.

It also toasts you the score when it's updated!

[Image: screenshot.png]  [Image: toast.png]

Nice short script, so might be good for beginner scripters too.

Enjoy! ;)

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by SteveUK on 06-25-2006 at 12:42 AM

Sure is usefull, nice job with the display picture generation - it really does show what these scripts can do. As well as useful for scripters it has really good practical use also. Good job.

We never have to use MSN Alerts again. The Messenger Plus Live Scripts must be great!

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Skyler0 on 06-25-2006 at 03:21 AM

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by patternott on 06-25-2006 at 04:29 AM

I cant seem to get the DP gen working also, and how do you open the options menu.

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Skyler0 on 06-25-2006 at 04:37 AM

click the Plus icon on the contact list, or message window. It's in there.

That's strange... what's your setup, I'm aware it doesn't work in vista, but even then it doesn't crash... any chance you could look at the debug log as it crashes and see if it says anything? :S
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 11:53 AM

ok second time it was fine but the dp does not get generated, does the match have to be playing? it just comes up wiv a toast but no new dp everytime i click save

After you've turned the option on it might not immediately update your DP till a score update, try using the /score command, that should force it to change the dp.
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 11:59 AM

hopper comes up but no dp :(

benjyrama:  Hmmm, could you check C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts\World Cup\Images\ (or wherever plus is installed) and see if there is a "generated.png" image there?

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 12:06 PM

yeh its there

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by tinpiliycfa on 06-25-2006 at 12:08 PM

It's there for me too but it don't change my pic or my background neither. does it workd only when a game is on ?

thanks

That means the problem is somewhere in setting the display picture... I assume you aren't using the leaked plus anymore right?

Also, try checking the script debugger (turn in on in plus > prefs > scripts) and see if there are any errors on using the /score command...
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 12:15 PM

Function called: OnGetScriptMenu
Function called: OnGetScriptMenu
Function called: OnEvent_Timer
ENGLAND 0-0  ECUADOR
Function called: OnEvent_ChatWndSendMessage
Function called: OnEvent_ChatWndSendMessage
The command "score" has been parsed.
ENGLAND 0-0  ECUADOR

here we go... no idea what it means

RE: RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-25-2006 at 12:27 PM

Oh wait, this plugin is still using the messenger API to set DPs, if you don't have windows messenger it probably won't work... I'll fix that and it'll probably work for you. :)

OK, uploaded a new version that will probably fix that.  Should be a little faster for everyone else too.

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by tinpiliycfa on 06-25-2006 at 03:10 PM

thanks

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Skyler0 on 06-25-2006 at 04:22 PM

YAY. The DP Gen is working now ^_^. Sick script

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Jellings on 06-25-2006 at 04:31 PM

y'know what would be even more awesome? the match time/ time remaining below the score in the toast

If you can find a site that provides this in xml or a simple page, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I can't add details I can't get from anywhere, I don't have people watching the match for me to enter stuff like the big sites ;)
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 07:18 PM

do i need to uninstall scripts b4 reinstalling a newer version?

Nope, though you probably should occasionally, to clean up old files and such.  But you don't need to, no.
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 07:29 PM

dp thing still doesnt work!!!!

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-25-2006 at 07:36 PM

You certain you downloaded the latest version?  Clear your cache or use a different browser?

That method of DP setting even worked in vista for me. :S

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Skyler0 on 06-25-2006 at 07:37 PM

It works for me, and it's working great :D

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 08:09 PM

alrite panic over lol, its working thanx alot

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 08:17 PM

ne way of changing fonts and stuff?

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Thor on 06-25-2006 at 08:21 PM

U have to edit the dynimage.dll, if I'm not wrong...

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-25-2006 at 08:31 PM

hmm i hav no clue about dlls

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-25-2006 at 09:55 PM

Glad it's working.  You don't have to edit the DLL, I would have included options but it wasn't worth it for the short time the script would be any use.

To change fonts, sizes, colours etc, open the script up in the script editor and go down to the make image function, you'll see lines like:

oDynImage.Color = 0x000000;
oDynImage.FontFace = "Trebuchet MS";

You can modify those my entering a new font name, and a hex colour code.  eg:

oDynImage.Color = 0x0F14A0;
oDynImage.FontFace = "Arial";

Feel free to play around with these, and the background image is in C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts\World Cup\Images\ (or your equivalent directory) if you want to change that. :)

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Muntted on 06-26-2006 at 10:50 AM

Hey,

your script seems really good. Just a couple of things though.

The DP feature isnt working for me, I have read through this thread and still cant get it working.

Is there a way to get rid of the Match time thing or change the timezone for it?

Cheers
Muntted

EDIT: Display pic thing is fixed. Seems the version on the MP!L site is out of date. Still looking for a solution to the time

Time can't really be changed without majorly changing the script or performing a quick hack.  Right now it just gets whatever it says on http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/sol/shared/bsp/hi/footba...tml/in_vision1.stm time included, what you could do is open the script editor, and insert a new line after line 100 that says:

latestscore = latestscore.replace('1600 BST','YOUR TIME HERE');

Which isn't an elegant solution, but will work nicely.
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Muntted on 06-26-2006 at 11:57 AM

Good enough for me.

Thanks

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by whYeNQue on 06-26-2006 at 12:06 PM

do you think you could do one for Wimbledon? The Tennis scores dont have to be updated all the time... hmmm... i think it would be harder because there are lots of matches going on at the same time... maybe if you could choose the match to display?

but good work on the world cup script :D

Good idea, won't have such a large audience but I like Wimbledon. :)

I'll see what I can do... I'd better be quick I suppose. :P

Lol, thanks, I've always thought so too. :P

Scores will come from here: http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/4111014.stm

But until a match starts playing I won't be able to see how the scores are gonna come out.
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by whYeNQue on 06-26-2006 at 12:23 PM

there are 9 games already playing right now XD

4 mens and 5 womens :P

so are you making a script for it
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-26-2006 at 02:12 PM

Yes.  But I think it will need some kind of selection for what match to show and such... =/

Too many damn matches.

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by rajvora on 06-26-2006 at 02:15 PM

well u can show the matches involving the tom 10 seeds or maybe 15

im really luking forward to this script..

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-26-2006 at 02:25 PM

does sound like a bit of a handful, especially in the first round when there are like sixty matches a day... why not just keep it to like a choice of Centre and Court no. 1 so theres only ever one match at a time and the user chooses whether to display centre match scores or cout 1 match scores

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-26-2006 at 02:27 PM

OK, I was thinking either:

You get a choice of names to follow the scores of.

Or

It just follows the major courts, as benjyrama said.

What do you reckon?

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-26-2006 at 02:28 PM

i do like the sound of that benjyrama's idea 8-)

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by rajvora on 06-26-2006 at 02:35 PM

i say the choice of names..
but i dont mind following the major courts either

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by benjyrama on 06-26-2006 at 03:11 PM

if you had the choice of names there would still be clashes cos sum top seeds could be playing at the same time (different match obviously)... it wouldnt totally eradicate the problem would it..

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by rajvora on 06-26-2006 at 05:35 PM

yeah .. so the major courts should be well and good

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by hanlin on 06-26-2006 at 05:56 PM

coming back to the world cup... anyone found out how to convert the PSM into a live ticker of play to play action? (like those on matchcasts) that would be so cool...

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by John Anderton on 06-26-2006 at 07:02 PM

Just one thing ... scores in all caps sucks :(
You could convert the text to normal names with only the 1st letter capitalised ... the code wouldnt be too long now would it? :)

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-26-2006 at 07:22 PM

Applies to both the above two suggestions:

The score is just pulled from http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/sol/shared/bsp/hi/footba...tml/in_vision1.stm and I don't have the man power or time to put scores in myself so it has to come from some site I can nick it off.  :P  The BBC page is good because it's short and easy to cut up.

I suppose I could make it capitalise the start of each word and small letter the rest but I'm not sure it's really worth it tbh. =/

If you really, really care about having it in caps I'll do it, but you could probably cope with it for a couple weeks... :P

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by John Anderton on 06-26-2006 at 07:26 PM

yeah i guess i could but it looks a lot better that way :P

Dont you just have to use the string to lower function and then search and capitalise the first letter? :(

quote:

Yeah i know ... i read the source ... ive been doing this stuff for months now you know :P
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by hanlin on 06-26-2006 at 07:37 PM

Actually I'm referring to setting the psm as a live commentary. but i can't find any site to pull the data from. :(

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by whYeNQue on 06-26-2006 at 08:01 PM

for the wimbledon script... i think the choice of top courts is the best idea :D

RE: RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-26-2006 at 08:04 PM

I'm doing it as top courts now.

1.  Me too!
2.  No I didn't know that, how would I? :P
3.  How come you can't do that function yourself then, it was pretty simple?? :P

Just add this function somewhere:

code:
function UnCaps(sString){
    for(var j = 0; j <= sString.length - 1; j++){
        var thischar = sString.charAt(j);
        if(!j==0 && !spacelast){ thischar = thischar.toLowerCase(); }
        if(thischar == ' '){ spacelast = true; } else { spacelast = false; }
        sString = sString.slice(0,j) + thischar + sString.slice(j+1,sString.length);
    }
    return sString;
}

Then after line 101 add:

latestscore = UnCaps(latestscore);

Enjoy...
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by whYeNQue on 06-26-2006 at 10:02 PM

the ukraine - switzerland game finished in penalties but my psm and dp stayed on 0-0 AET ... i had to change them manually, after 15 mins after the game had finished... is the script able to show penalty results?

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by hanlin on 06-26-2006 at 10:09 PM

same here, but guess not as it's not handled by the script... it all depends on whether the BBC site shows it.

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by Ingiliz_cezahsi on 06-26-2006 at 10:10 PM

This has to be by far the simplest yet greatest scripts so far.
I would like to see it updated to cover major sports events.
Perhaps show your favourate teams results in accordance to the BBC's site.

Thanx in advance!
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-27-2006 at 01:36 PM

Options are in the menu, which is found by clicking the plus logo in a convo or the main window.  Try reading the scripting docs or opening my windows.xml to learn something about windows.

And the wimbledon script:  I'm working on it!

Did you download the version off the script database?

If so, get the version off http://msig.info/worldcup/ instead.

I know! :P

I went to the same school as him. :)  He was in my class for a while.

Wimbledon script nearly done, I've coded a court selecter so you can select which courts to follow and change them at any time. :)

Expect a thread with a download soon!
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by John Anderton on 06-27-2006 at 05:26 PM

Oh one small bug that i found.

When you install the script for the first time (or edit and save the script), the scripts get reinitialised right? At this instant, i get a popup twice ie closing one popup causes the second one to show up :)

Ive tried this a few times and the problem seems to persist. Looping problem or something i guess :S

There were rumours that it was somewhere near where I am in Farnborough...?

Murray on the way to winning the second set now!

Error for World Cup Script by borofan1986 on 06-27-2006 at 07:10 PM

I have downloaded the World Cup Script. Upon inporting it i receive a pop up box saying "an error occured whilst importing the script files"

Any ideas as to why this is happening? And if so, how to rectify it?

Thanks

Have you tried downloading again? And did you download it from http://msig.info/worldcup/?

Can you successfully import other scripts or is it just the World Cup Script? *-)

RE: Error for World Cup Script by borofan1986 on 06-27-2006 at 07:38 PM

Zahid™ - Yes I am on Vista and thanks very much for the pointer, I have looked through that.

alexp2_ad - I downloaded another script and that would not install neither.

So i looked and followed the instructions on the linked thread.

I have now successfully installed the World Cup script.

Thank you all for your help :)

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by hanlin on 06-27-2006 at 11:44 PM

I did some modifications for personal use, and perhaps some suggestions for the script:

1) I read from 2 websites: BBC for score and NYtimes for live play-to-play action.

I have not found a way to automatically read in the info from the NYtimes, so for now I have to manually enter the starting point to read in the text about 5 times every match :( Does anyone knows a better live text feed site/rss, perhaps something short and sweet like the worldcup site's matchcast or espn gamecast?

2) The format of the string is {BBC-score}{NYtimes-action}. This can be quite long, so i display it as my nick and it overflows to the psm.

3) I also modified the toasts to differenciate goals from other events like start/HT/FT. (something like the worldcup site matchcast)

I also have an idea to "rip" some live picture off the internet and merge it with the score and display it as my "live" dp... but I have no idea where to get the photo and how to process it during runtime... :S:S

The newssource only shows AET, no PSO score and etc. :)

maybe the offical fifa yahoo website would be a better source, not sure how is the data going to be captured though.

I managed to get live text feed from http://footymadwc.sportbox.tv. page format is standardised so it was quite easy to extract the data. I display the last 3 plays and their minutes on my nick and psm.

However, I found that the refreshing is a bit weird. Think its because IE and Messenger share the same cache, so I have to keep the page open in IE to let the data update correctly. Wonder if there is anything  I can do about it...

You should have kept a bit of my code in.  I took the URL and changed it thus:

"http://...../page.asp?refresh="+Math.random();

That adds a random number to the url so that the page will never be cached. :)
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by hanlin on 06-30-2006 at 07:52 PM

I tried that, but it doesn't seem to work for the website I am using...

mid = "3034908";
var url = "http://footymadwc.sportbox.tv/football/matchcentre/matchcentre.php?id=" + mid;

I changed it to:

var url = "http://footymadwc.sportbox.tv/football/matchcentre/matchcentre.php?id=" + mid + "?refresh="+Math.random();

couldn't get anything out of it. Did I do anything wrong?

RE: World Cup Live 2006 by alexp2_ad on 06-30-2006 at 08:27 PM

Yes, if there's already a variable in the url it'll need to be &refresh

Though I suppose that shouldn't really matter... but try anyway.

Here it is... But don't expect it to be bug free... I think there's a little problem with the nickname/psm change upon fulltime... and a bit of other stuff here and there.. It was modified to work.. but barely... :S:S

You will need to modify the script before every match to match the ID from the website. Before the match, visit the website and edit the script (line1).

Here's how to:
   Go to http://wc.footymad.net/live-scores
   obtain the url for match centre for the desired match.
   Example:
   http://footymadwc.sportbox.tv/football/matchcentr...tre.php?id=3034908
      --> The id is 3034908
   Go to line 1 and replace the value of mid --> var mid="3034908"

After editing line 1, You may also want to edit the option on line 6.

The data for the live text and scores are obtained from different websites, so depending on the speed of their updating, there might be a slight difference between the displayed score and the action. (but its about there)

Also, the code is very messy and inefficient, cos i decided that it was not really worth the effort optimising it as the world cup gonna end in 6 matches...

Finally, it was modified to my personal use and liking... so most of u might not like the extravagant and lengthy nicks and psms, etc...

If you don't mind the above trouble, of just curious, you may try it ;)

I just hope it works on your system.
RE: World Cup Live 2006 by hanlin on 07-01-2006 at 06:15 PM

Sorry, forgot about extra-time. Modified line 318 to:

if(scr.slice(scr.length - 2, scr.length) == "FT" || scr.slice(scr.length - 3, scr.length) == "AET"){

It should handle extra time properlly...

Has anyone re-made this script for Euro 2008 ?
