i know this has been brought up already and i knwo the admins don't want to change, but the old theme in the center simply doesn't fit, i've done a few VERY simple modifacations to the css file and look at what i got:

some people like it, some don't but hey, atleast i gave it a new look

I don't think the green is what anyone was going for.. I don't think it matches with the header really..

i stole the gradent colours from the msgpluslive.net homepage, it more matches the original site

if somebody can tell me hoe in IE7 i can use my css file localy i'd stop pushing the thing

I like the green... everytime I log on with the blue on here it makes it look like I need to log in cause I'm used to the old gray one... but I wanted the new one.

I like the combination of blue and green... it looks nice.

Now if those stupid gradients in every trow1/trow2 cell were removed, the theme might be approaching perfection...

they're a different green, plus its not ALL green, just the the forum headers, catagory image, and the thin border

Using it as the border color might be a bit excessive, but I think it looks awesome as the "tcat" color in the Latest Posts screenshot.

well its a matter of opinion, so far i've seen 45% like mine, and the other 45% like the current, the other 10% are somewhere else

I agree totally, though a different blue might be better or maybe even the orange (like the box on the right of the download page for example) might be better with the green

Sorry - but green and blue just don't mix together in connected items and areas like that (You'll notice the big green area on site site is not connected to the blue one).

The only decent colour change I've seen so far was the colour of the header column in haydn's screenshot - http://shoutbox.menthix.net/attachment.php?pid=675787 as well as the table row colour in Eljay's screenshot - http://shoutbox.menthix.net/attachment.php?pid=674740

Adding new themes isn't really an option as it means it is harder for us to maintain.

They both look quite good. Personally I would like the titles and borders like that in haydn's screenshot but maybe use the orange in Eljay's screenshot as the bacground in the tables.

Nitemare, first your website is mixing red with black (nitemare.ca) which does not (Oh, we're not christmas yet too) go together, either does blue and green.

How about not mixing any more colours in to it?

NEVER use more than two primary colours without proper reason or you're asking for trouble and a crappy looking page.

Green and orange is a secondary colour so it's all good then.

Green is meant to go best with red and orange with blue btw.

No, primary colours in terms of this means colours which are used constantly throughout the site and you have big chunks of them in.

That's what I was think, just don't have the skills to show it.

I think it fits in really well with th MP!L homepage as well, good job (Y)

EDIT: Only thing that I would think of improving is the colour of the links because it doesn't seem to sit nicely with the orange, but that's all that I can think of.

Sorry - but I thought the old theme was blue and the old site was also blue.

Not to mention the blue is used on the scripting site so it provides even BETTER integration in to the site.

That aside - ever heard of the expression "too many cooks spoil the broth", the same applies for colours - too many colours spoil the design.

Exactly what i was thinking, it matches the scripts db theme and doesn't completely change the old theme. It keeps it similar, just gets rid of some of the gradients.

I think this looks a bit plain. All the colours do go together nicely, but that's because it only uses like 2 of those that are on the MP!L homepage. I realise that too many colours make it look messy but I think for better integration it should use th same colour sheme, all of it, it's not like there are too many colours anyway.

Whats wrong with plain?
I'd rather use a plain simple theme than one with loads of different colours flying around. Remember that this is for a site to be used not just looked, so simplicity is the key.

Well I'm feeling quite stupid at the moment, after Chris seemed to like the the first one I whipped up I decided to expand that theme to the index page (still in good ol' MS Paint :tongue: ). Only once finished did I realise it looks almost exactly as the one Chris made himself

I love haydn's, although would be nicer if the "Forum Posts Threads Last Post" bit was either the same colour or more different from the one under it.

Personally, I prefer Nitemare's to haydn's and the others(orange ouache ). And I like the contrast from the blue and the green. Maybe some will find me weird but it's my opinion

That was actually something I considered when designing the scripts db tables, porting the gradient-less style to the forum. Looks cleaner (and perhaps everybody got tired of theg radients already

). I didn't do it in the end because the gradients still matched the style and IMO look good, but I'd agree in simplifying it if many prefer it.
