Hi, this is the first plugin/script that I have ever written, thanks to the easy to use scripting system in Msg Plus! Live. Here is the readme for Gmail Checker:

       What is Gmail Checker?
----------------------------------------------------------------

Gmail Checker is a script for Msg Plus! Live
(http://www.msgpluslive.net). Gmail Checker allows
you to poll the Gmail servers periodically to check
for new mail count. When there is new mail in your
Gmail accounts, Gmail Checker alerts you with the
name of the account and the amount of new emails.

Gmail Checker also allows you to store information
for multiple accounts. You can also get mail count
for individual, or all accounts instantly through
commands.

Gmail Checker now supports the option of checking
unread emails and only alerting you about the ones
that are new since the last check.

Get mail count for one gmail account.

        If no parameters are entered - displays a
        dialog to enter email and password.

        If only email is entered - if email exists

        database, password supplied in parameter
        is used, not the one stored in database.

I also use Gmail Notifier for firefox, but i made this script for myself because I dont have firefox open all the time. But the firefox extensions for Gmail are pretty good too.

Also, DaeronTinúviel, what browser do you use? (or what browser is your default). I've only tested it for Firefox and IE.

Check the Script debugging window, does it give you any errors after you click the toast.

Set your gmail to have pop3 access and check it with normal MsgPlus Live email accounts !!!

Excellent work, and some of it is pretty short so it makes a good example script for developers.

Is there any chance of getting it to work like hotmails does. i.e. if it finds 5 new emails, then if 5 minutes later it still finds 5 new emails it doesn't tell me all over again. Other than that, I'm loving it

slang123, well coding wise it is possible, but it wouldn't work logic wise.
Say you have 5 emails now, but within the next 5 minutes, you go and read 2 emails, but you also receive 2 emails. Now you have 5 unread emails, but they're not the same.

But I am looking into adding to see if the same emails already exist.

I get a page cannot be displayed error when I click the toast.  I think it has something to do with the page being linked to in the scipts folder requires a verification code to be entered before you can log in. 

I also have another problem.  it doesn't remove the accounts after I click remove.  it removes them from the list but it still checks them and gives me a toast for the removed accounts.

not a big issue but it would be nice if it opened in a new tab when I already have my browser open instead of launching a new window.

just one thing... If you get stored the password and the name of an account, why when I choos to chek justone account ask me for the name and the password???

I'll use it. Sounds very nice, since MP!L generally doesn't get GMail right. Well, it's not MP!L fault though.

could ther be a funtion that only when user ...1@hotmail.com logs on to WLM he can check Gmail and not user ...2@hotmail.com?

Are you sure?  I read somewhere else that all users had all the scripts.  Also, I was wondering - could the method you use to open Gmail be used to open live mail messages in your default browser instead of IE - this is a much sought after feature.

No I know it opens in the default browser, that's the great thing about it!  What I was asking was whether you could use the same message to open your Live mail/Hotmail messages which currently open in IE.

I'm using avant.  but I don't have it set as my default browser.  I guess it would probably open in a new tab if I had it set.

How about having it so that if you click the alert (saying 5 new emails), it then checks your mail again in 1 minute (lets say there are now 3 new).
It then will only alert you again when you get >3 new emails.

Of course this could be turned off or on in the options and there are still flaws in this approach, but its as good as it gets without it checking the content of the emails.

fixed it,

Edit to delete it, you need to Sign out of WLM8 an exit it from Systray an re-start it from Programs menu an then go back into MPL Script Pregerences an then remove it

I put 2 gmail account when i receve an email in an account there is 2 popup in right bottom of windows with the 1 email in each one

it's not necessary...plus can check yahoo by itself...plus just cant check gmails

sign in, go to Options...in the right side there is something like "POP access and something" (I dont use it in english, but it's something similar to that)
you just need to enable POP3

Ok, I suppose I will have three accounts counters in different places (yahoo in Messenger Plus, hotmail in the msn mail counter and gmail in the plugin menu)

I would of thought Cooldude_i06 would have read your suggestion.

I have recently tested the update.

And i can say he has NOT added it yet but he may will do soon.

I can confirm he has done the following:

1. Fix accounts not being removed from memory. - DONE

2. Add save username and pass tab to Check Gmail Accounts. - DONE

3. Option to check stored account in Check Gmail Accounts window. - DONE

4. MAJOR - Display only new emails alerts. - DONE

Other people have suggested other thing's in the above.

I always ask Cooldude if he has read them.

Most of the time it's a YES.

I can say from the idea's above me and Cooldude have been thinking about.

1. Event Logs.
2. Extra Tweaking.

I cannot go into detail yet.

But im sure he will add more stuff.

dude, the option "check for newer emails" mean emails not notified??

ie: if I see: '1 new email' but I dont read this new mail. some time later I receive a new email and I'll recieve '1 new email' again?

No, it means that once you are alerted about a certain email, it won't alert you about the same email again, kind of how the hotmail one works. Also it will tell you who you got the email from if you only received one.

When I first installed the script (v1.0), everything worked as expected. However, after upgrading to 1.10, I keep getting the message that the script can't connect to the server when I use the automatic check.
Strangely though, if I click on "Check all Gmail accounts", I do get the information.
I have it on two seperate machines (at home and at work).

BUG FOUND

If the script cannot connect to the gmail server, it causes a feedback loop which stops IE from responding as it keeps trying to connect to gmail.

You really should put a timeout function after 30 seconds of no reply from the server (30 seconds because the least check limit is 1 minute which some silly people may do)

What happens? A window is supposed to pop up asking for your email and password. Try the other way of adding accounts, from the Plus! menu choose Gmail Checker -> Check Gmail Account, check "Save account to settings".

After you click the Add button, the "Add Account" window should dissapear and "Setting" window should reappear. If this does not happen, try it with script debugging on (Plus! - > Show Script Debugging -> choose Gmail Checker from the list) and tell me what error it gives you.

there is one . check the menu. "check for update" is an option there

up until a few days ago it worked properly.. but now, the popup that appears when you initiate the messenger, or whenever you check if you have mail, is allways saing "2 new emails"  wheather i have none, 1, 2 or more.......

is this a bug that can be solved???

Hey CoolDude first of all congratulations with this script it really rocks!

i have a problem... i had to format my pc, and after doing that i installed your script... the thing is.. i cant check nothing now! if i try to add an account, when i press "Add" nothing happens... doesnt do anything the window is still displaying and i cant add the account...

If i try to check a mail without adding.. the window closes... but nothing happens... doesnt tell me if there is or isnt a mail nor if there is an error.

Same exact thing happens if i do it by text command.


Curious thing though is that if i enter the username, but dont enter the password, it gives me an error saying that the password cant be blank. This happens in both comand panel cases.

I already reinstalled msgplus and your script... and still the same :\


Help... cus its really usefull for me!

suggestion: a bit like windows live today but if you disable today from starting up and do a pop that just shows you inbox and the title and sender it would be just like windows live today

damn... i removed both the script and messenger plus plugin... installed everything again and still doesnt work :\ and still gives me the same error on debugger...

It seems like it cant properly load the dll. Remove the script, and also manually remove (if they exist):

Folder: C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts\Gmail Checker
File: C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts_DLLs\reg_MSNDD.dll

Then install the script again, and open up script debugging window and see what it says right after you install the script.

Can you add the option to have different times to check each account? I have 3 accounts used for various things and 1 needs to be checked every 1 minute, 1 at 5 minutes and one at 10 minutes. Can you make this possible in the next version?

I have a problem with this script. When I try to add an account via the settings, the OK button doesn't do anything (I press it, i remain at the add account).

I've tried stopping and uninstalling the script and deleting all the files/DLLs for it.

I'm running the latest version of Live (8.0.0812) and Plus. The only other script I use is google utilities.
I've had it work in the past, but then I reformmated and now it doesn't work.

I tried doing it with debugging options to see what's wrong and this is what I got.

Hey one feature request though. Would it be possible to have an option to replace the toast with a contacts on the desktop style floater with the email amounts?

one small request is to let us be able to change the sounds. i dont mind the sound for when i get mail but i hate the sound when i get an error connecting to the server. PLEASE this is the only reason why i dont use the gmail checker. thanks alot

Simply change the sounds in the "Sounds" subdirecty of the Gmail script directory.

eg:
c:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts\Gmail Checker\Sounds\newalert.wma
and
c:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts\Gmail Checker\Sounds\newemail.wma

i still think that the sounds should be customizable through the script because that seems better and easier and also when i change the sounds a week later  the sounds change back to the default ones

i have a problem with gmail checkeri  reinstall the plugin and then it works i delete the newalert sound then it does not work

im going to try to find out how the gmail checker breaks on my computer and then ill give you results. all i know is when it dont work i just install it and it works. the only thing i do to the plugin folder is delete the newalert sounds from the 2  folders

there's something wrong with it. It doesnt stop telling me that i have new email when i've selected only notify on new mail, it just keeps popping up with how many mail i have.... plz help...

Warmth, even though I do not understand those errors as they are not in English, I think it might be permissions issue (which was the case for another person). Are you under a limited or administrator account?

Does anyone know if they have stopped updating the Scripts Database, the last update was 12 days ago and I'm still waiting for 2 of my scripts to be updated. People keep asking me when bugs will be fixed whey they already have been.

Worked perfectly in the past ... but after formatting and coming to install it again I have problems.

First, it won't appear in the drop down menu when clicking the scripts icon on the main messenger window (even though it is installed and enabled).

Second (in an attempt to access the config) I tried typing /gcconfig ... got the window to add an account, but when entering the details and clicking the ADD button, nothing happens. Click close... and the account is not there

Hi everybody, Ive just download the gmail. checker 1.11 and it doesn't work . I ve been trying to add my account and it stays still.
I was thinking that as I login to the messenger throw a  passport account this might be the problem but all the others sticks work well.

Ok I have installed Gmail Checker one two different PC's of mine with Windows XP and I saw no problems. So for people having problems I need to the Error Log which can be obtained by --> Plus Preferences --> Scripts --> Check "Enable Debugging Options" --> Click OK. Then in top toolbar menu click Plus --> Show Script Debugging and select Gmail Checker from the drop down.

Please use the latest version of Plus so that the error logs include file names as well. Also please do not bother posting error logs that are not in English, as they will be of no use to me.

I'm having a problem:
(Using WLM 8.5, MP!L 4.22)
Everytime I click to check all acounts the script checks and right after WLM crashes.

Hmm ok, add me on msn. I do not know where these problems are coming from as I personally have never seen them. So I will need to see them first hand.

Cooldude, it's happening again: When I sign in WLM and I have new Gmails, right after I'm warned WLM crashes.

And another bug: I check 2 accouts. Sometimes I receive an email on "account 1" but I'm warned on both accounts. Understand?

Unknown error happens if you can't properly connect to the gmail servers.

I'm wondering if this script works with emails at your own domain (but hosted with gmail). (Like the email I use @dotlou.com).

Edit: well it does, because apparently name@domain.com@gmail.com works. The only problem is when I click the popup, it loads up the default gmail page, and not the mail.google.com/a/domain

Might want to adapt it for that?

I've been using this script for a while, and I love it, but lately I've been having some trouble with it.

A few weeks ago a changed to Windows Vista, and I haven't been able to add my Gmail account to the list, so it's not really checking anything. Any suggestions?

Facing exactly the same errors on Vista - obviously it's not compatible.  Can anything be done to get it to work, I'm missing this script!?

Hi chancer in future please don't double post. In my testing this script worked for both MP!L 4.50 and Vista.

It doesn't work here. I can't add a contact.
I click the first "Add", it opens the next window, I type my email and pass.
When I click "Add" again nothing happens.

I'm having the same problem... did anybody find a fix for it yet?

Chancer and doggymon,

I've looked at the source code (GC_main.js) and found the cause why the script's not working on Windows Vista.

Gmail Checker uses a DLL file called "EnDec_110.dll" (line 29/30. it's packaged in the script file, i.e. .plsc file).
(I think this DLL is used to encrypt/decrypt stored passwords, but I haven't looked all of the code so I'm not sure.)

After you import Gmail Checker, it copies the DLL file to the Script DLL folder (usually it is C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts_DLLs) and registers the DLL (runs "regsvr32 /S (Full path of the DLL file)"). (line 79/80)

However, Windows Vista does not allow to:
- access to Program Files folder by default
- run regsvr32 without Administrator privilage
This is due to Vista's infamous UAC (User Account Control), so even if you are on an administrator account, you can't add Gmail accounts.

While we wait for CoolDuDe_i06's official fix, there are two workaround methods for this problem (either way will work, though I recommend you to use the second method for security reasons):

1. Disable the UAC
Go to Control Panel, then open User Accounts. Select "Turn User Account Control on or off". Vista will ask your permission so click "Continue". Un-check "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer", click OK, then reboot your computer. After reboot, launch Windows Live Messenger.

2. Run Windows Live Messenger as Administrator
Exit Windows Live Messenger if you are running. Go to Start Menu --> All Programs --> Windows Live. Right-click "Windows Live Messenger", then select "Run as Administrator". Vista will ask your permission so click OK.

The first method simply disables UAC, so Gmail Checker will be able to access any folders without "Permission denied" error.
The second method allows Gmail Checker to copy and register the necessary DLL file.

These methods are required for the first time only; once you launched Windows Live Messenger with above methods, you can turn on UAC back again, or exit and launch WLM normally.

Hi I've installed the program and add my user name and password but when the program checks if I've have mail it says: Incorrect username or password, but I check it like ten times and keep saying that.

I have just formatted my PC yesterday and installed both XP and Vista.
No problems on XP, but on Vista, even with Mentwar's hint, it still doesn't work.

I'd try copping XP's registry and adding it to Vista's but I'm pretty lazy to reboot now.
When I do, I'll post the results.

Edit: I was pretty sure that my info was stored into the registry. But I was looking for it and didn't find.

Does anyone know if this script is compatible with the Windows Live Messenger 2009 Beta (Build 14) and Messenger Plus Live 4.79? I can't seem to find the settings area in these versions to setup my email accounts.

It's not compatible...

I've had this script installed but ewverytime I click on it to open gmail in the browser, the WLM just freeze...

SOLVED.
I hit with the problem checking two accounts. I reach this forum because suddenly Gmail Checker says that I have 0 new mail (and there was more). It tells so because IE was remembered other gmail account that hasn't new emails; I use Firefox so if I want to check another gmail, I use IE.
So, in any way, Gmail Checker uses the account remmembered by IE (cookies?) to check gmail accounts. This is the reason why if you configure more than one gmail account, it tells the same number of messages for all the accounts: it shows you the messages count of the account remembered by IE (and it could be only one)

I have been using this mod for a while now and I am very satisfied with it. It does exactly what I need.

Only recently it started having a bug, I think they changed something at gmail, because when I click the toast I am forwarded to a page where I still have to type my password. It used to direct my directly to my mailbox, logged in and ready.

Ye, I've notice the same, but I supposed that it's a cookie problem. I only need to supply password. Not investigated yet.

Same here... toaster redirects me to Gmail, but I still have to introduce my password manually at Gmail´s homepage.

I can see my username and password on the URL within the address bar of my browser after I clik the toaster, but no automatic login occurs.

Any solutions yet?

- WLM Build 14.0.8089.726

- Messeger Plus! Live Version: 4.83.0.372

The problem is that I can't add my account. The scipt is installed. What I tried to do:

Scripts > Gmail Checker > Settings > Add > Username: myaccount@gmail.com Password: *******

Then when I click on add, nothing happens.

So I click on close. I check  in "Gmail Accounts". There is nothing in the list.

What's happening? Does anyone had the same problem?

Hey, could u add like where you'd like to check ur mail from. When i click on the link i automatically go to the gmail site but i'd prefer if i went automatically to my windows live mail.
