[request] USB light by Turner on 07-01-2006 at 10:19 PM

Hey,

I have a USB LED light. I am wondering is there a script so this light blinks off and on when I receive a message on Windows Live Messenger?

Thanks very much :),
Turner

No, how can it burn if it does not have electricity?
And when it is on, nothing will happen either because thats what it is designed for....

how the LED works if it's not with electricity??

He wants it to flash, you know, turn on and off, on and off, not a higher voltage.

Not if there's a 300Ohm resistor in series with it.

hmmm.........I'm not english/american/other country which speaks english...

I think I used the wrong expression...not burn 'with fire'...but if you turn it on/off/on/off so many times wont it stop working?

I don't know if that actually happens with LED lights. :s

A typical LED has a lifetime of about 100,000 hours, and isn't affected by switching.
And even if you overload it, it just wears quicker. I've seen an LED killed in less than 10 seconds, by whacking a huge current across it. It just glowed bright, and faded after a while.

Thanks for some help, Anybody got a script yet?

RE: [request] USB light by ramik on 07-02-2006 at 07:36 AM

the usb led light doesn't set/get information on the usb bus, it only take the necessary power to turn on.... so there is no direct way to control it...

the only way is to make a circuit to make a serial/parallel port as a switch for the usb port though a usb switch build for that reason.... but in that way you could make the circuit and script that some other user made with the same your idea: flasher script (http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=61488)

wouldnt you have to set the actually usb socket that you use? otherwise it could cause havock with your other periphirals or however u spell it

Or how about setting up a little circuit using the Data+ rail to turn the LED on via a transistor?
