New stuff:

  • Now can get your running game (and server IP, if any) from Xfire
  • Option to beep internal speaker on messages received if a selected program is running (useful for full screen games)
  • Option to change display picture when certain program is running
  • Added update system to script
  • Added option to rate the script to the menu, once you rate the script, the option will disappear
  • No longer using a DLL to set the PSM, this may not seem better to non-scripters... but it is. :P  (thanks to -dt- for the function)

Bug fixes:
  • Now works properly with programs that hide their full application path (I'm looking at you Warcraft)
  • Fixed bugs with list not displaying correctly sometimes

AppMon+ is a script that monitors your running programs and sets a "What I'm Listening To" PSM based on what's running.

So for example you could set it so when certain games are running it'll show them in your PSM for your contacts to see.

Made this script in response to this request.

Its application not aplication on the gui, i dont yet have it though so i dont no if theres others as i dont need it 'yet' as i dont have anything on my laptop yet apart from msn :P

Configured it to change status and PSM when I open Word, but it didn't work, unless I've missed switching it on somewhere.

You have to have it set as What im listening to, in your personal message!

EDIT:
It works fine for me, but it gives me an icon even if i dont want one and its the windows one :( so it would be nice to have a default icon choosable?? or just a little bulb, smiley face/sad face depending on how you feel about what we may be doing to be using appmon :P

I like where if using two of the listed applications, it handles it by splitting the messages well :D icons dont work when this happens though and havn't yet tried using two apps with different status's assigned to them :D

It picks the icon and status from the first app is finds, which is purely random.  Messages it will show both, as you observed. ;)

Fixed a couple small bugs, redownload would be best. :)

i dont think its working for me with World of Warcraft. I alt TAB out to see if my PSM has changed, and it hasnt. unless its so fast at changing back when i alt tab. but i kinda doubt that, as alt tabbing is fast for me.

Don't have WoW so can't test this personally, but make sure you select the main executable used in-game, that would appear on ctrl+alt+delete, don't select, say, the launcher for the game.

yeah, i did that. WoW.exe is what ive used.  I tested it with BitComet.exe. and that works. So it just seems WoW isnt being picked up.

find a file which its using as its process, right click on the task bar and go to task manager after using the windows key to minimize the game, then the program it has running is needed for it to be identified!

Problem im having is that i cant remove the script, its constantly saying there are locked files therefor still in use?? yer i edited it removed all code, and stopped it and its still complainging :(

WoW.exe is the process we already got that. As for your problem, disable the script, restart messenger then remove the script.

Not being able to remove the script will be the DLL being locked, closing the contact list window while removing should work.

Could someone with the WoW problem please install / run this test script while WoW is running and look on the script debugger, there should be a list of running apps made when the script was installed.  See if WoW is on that.

Just a suggestion... maybe it would be good if we had the option to put some text before the running applications. Say for example...

Good idea, I'll add something like that when I get round to an update. :)  If you're desperate to have it now, it's easy to do manually, just open the code to line 329 (the plus script editor will do) and change it from:

great lil script, very useful.

However i found that it doesn't work with some of the executables i specify and i found tht the config panel is very erractic. Sometimes i access it and it has entries i have already deleted, sometimes it merges entries together, eg when i run microsoft word it has the psm Solitaire.

and could it be possible tht when said application is terminated that the status changes back to what it was?

Nope, links are generated on the client end, like the msn music store or whatever, you can't have it as a link, sorry.

Anyways, maybe... I'm pretty sure that might be possible, but if I started supporting IE, people would want support for Firefox, Opera, Netscape, flock, lynx, god knows what. :P

when i restarted my comp and turned it on the next day, the script does not work, i have to manually go into config each time and tell it that my program is runnin, then when i close it it stays displayed as running and i have to manually go in and save settings again to turn it off, anyone else getting this?

i've stopped using this script for now as it keeps messing up my configuration, entries dissapear and the PMs from the missing entries replace the entries that are there. I mean ...Micro Machines v4\mmv4.exe is clearly not Unreal tournament 2004

and the top entry in the attached picture is meant to be Word.

First off, I am completly new to the deal using scripts as addons in the plus program , Cant say I dont like it. But just have a slight issue with one of the scripts I am using.

Considering the Authors site doesnt have a forum or contact method and I have seen the author post here, then commen sense tells me to make a post here and hope he sees it or perhaps someone else familiar with the add can help.

I have no problems with it at all, it seems to work like it supposed to.

The only thing nagging at me is that it doesnt seem to detect when the program its set to detect is closed, well I take that back it does, and changes the psm back to normal but it DOES NOT change the status back to online or what it previously was.

So yeah, I was wondering if someone, preferably the author could perhaps make an updated version or fix if its possible.

Feature suggestion:

I was wondering later in development if you can add display picutres for the apps it is monitoring,

say it sets u to busy and pm is Playing Half-Life 2. I think it would be cool if you can auto change to a HL2 Display picture.

Of course it would have to reset the picture after thwe application is terminated as well as the status..

jus a thought.

MWard: don't wanna be another site with a forum with 20 members. ;)  I'll happily provide support in the thread here, by email, messenger, whatever.  I'll try and sort out the status thing, don't have time to do any coding till this weekend so I'll sort that then.

C0NTiNUiTY: will add that as well.

So hopefully sometime this weekend you'll see a new version with Xfire support, status changing back, and DP changing.  And I'll see if I can match the path more forgivingly for those difficult programs...

Check the thread, updates will be here before the script db... :)

Added a beta version with Xfire support to the top post!

If you want to try the beta version I haven't had time to test fully download it here.  This version supports Xfire reading (turn it on in the configuration window) and should change your status back to your original one when the apps are closed.


NOT had time to fully test it, so please try it out and let me know how it works! :)

Something else that could be handy with this because of Nubs that ignore your status or don't read your personal message is Auto-Response - since the built in one with Messenger plus won't work co-operativly with this.

The auto response could just be a single line message (Or Multiple if you wanna put that as another feature, I dont see the point myself - If they dont get the point from the status, Personal Message and an auto response, they are screwed for life) , so when you set it up,

Your Icon - Game

App/Game - CounterStrike

Game location - C:\blah\blah

Status - Busy

Return message when playing game -

I'm playing CounterStrike - Leave me alone.


Really good script, shame it don't work the same as Xfire allowing people who have the game to be able to join servers or view game stats and profiles. There is a mod that allows your messenger contacts to appear on Xfire you so can talk to them, and when your playing a game it appears on other peoples messengers the same way as this app allows (people who can see it but are using messenger still cn't join servers or view game stats and profiles) . but there aint one the other way around allowing WLM to work the same way as Xfire - I would love this if it was at all possible.

As far as I know Mentality, if it was sending an auto message the focus would shift to the window and minimise the full screen application. You wouldn't like that while you are playing a game ;)

I could be wrong, but in my experience when a script has sent a message it momentarily steals focus... annoying for people with slow computers (me ;))

I'm pretty sure messenger stops that though when your status is set to busy or away and your are running a full screem application - if you wasn't running the full screen ap, then it would be allowed to pop-up with the message.

I could be wrong but this is from personal experience.

Interestingly, I've just started having a problem with this. :S

But anyway, I've fixed it, so please download the beta again because I'm pretty confident this fix should work. (Y)

Xfire support is pretty groovy, glad people bugged me to do this. :P

Dunno about the focus switching to the window, that's a good question, I'll check out the automessage stuff and see if I can get something working. :)

Working fine but found a little issue. If you're in offline mode it will change your status to what you've defined when you start playing a game (in my case Busy) which is unwanted.

I've "fixed" it by changing the folowing in line 430 of AppMon+.js:

This seems to work ok for the XFire bit but it was just a quick hack the author should better know how to fix it, maybe even add an option for it.

That happens to me and I don't have AppMon+ installed so it may be a bug with WLM, not the script

That happens to me and I don't have AppMon+ installed so it may be a bug with WLM, not the script


after i have deleted the script i NEVER faced this problem
the problem in the script, it does remake your DP and select it which can be only made as a small pic

New version!

* Brought back the ability to include your PSM in your messages (as requested above), just add (!PSM) into the message where you want it, the first one will be replaced with your PSM, but others will be removed, so if you have PSM at the end of your message for 2 apps it won't include it twice.

* Rewrote the backend to use XML instead of that hideous regsitry system I was using.  But don't worry, all your current settings will be retrieved from the registry with no hassle.

* Minor bugs sorted on the way. ;)

* Contest update :P

I just downloaded ur new version of the script, by the way...AWESOME! ;) Good Work...but!

I downloaded once and worked perfectly! Then i just formatted my PC and downloaded it again and... puf! it just doesn't work!

What i'm listening to ON and all stuff, all configured, but it just can't work

I wonder why :(

P.D.: Does Framework have something to do with it?
P.D.2: I downloaded a similar script...the "etcetera" and I tried and all other functions worked exept for the function that captures running windows and displays a PSM...weird :S

This script was great but for me it no longer works.

I configure it and choose the option to "Display my current playing game from Xfire" and hit save.

The thing is, when I restart Messenger the setting doesn't stay : the option to "Display my current playing game from Xfire" is unchecked. So I need to re-enable the setting every time I start WLM. :(

I've uninstalled an reinstalled Appmon+ in the hope that this will fix the problem but it remains.

Also, Steam games aren't recognised for some reason. (ie HL2 / Counter Strike: Source etc..)
Xfire knows what game I'm playing and it's status is displayed in Xfire as normal but the info is never relayed to Appmon+ :(

Any chance of a fix for these issues?

Friend of mine uses Appmon and had the same issue, i've fixed it for him by going to the script folder and open Configuration.js

were it says:

This is a real good script!!!!

But there are two things that I don't like:

1) everytime that the script changes my status it changes my avatar too, it creates another image with a code like name and, if i don't delete clones, the image becomes more darker

2) if I use that script for more apps (for example 5, 2 with personal PM and 3 without PM) the PMs of some apps were setupped on other apps, that thing appens only when I edit an option of any app

Finally I want to know if it is possible that I heard the beep not by the external speaker but like every sound (because I use headphones)

P.S.: I'm not english so I hope that I haven't done too much errors :$

There's a bug in the Xfire detection mechanism.

my xfire detects the game fine and writes it to the ini file, but appmon doesn't detect them when the stutus is written to the bottom of the ini file instead of the top, so the script can't find the game because it starts searching for the game after it finds the status message. But the games are defined above the status message.

It searches for the status tag, in this tag is the gameID of the running game, then it searches below the status tag for the game info.

You can try it out, start a game, change the ini file to put the status tag below the game info and appmon won't detect it anymore.

Hi, I'm new here. I just starting using AppMon+2.0. One thing I notice is that when I specify a Display Picture in the field "Change DP while running(blank for no change)" my original Display Picture will not come back after I'm done using the application.

For example, I have an entry setup to change my PSM to say I'm playing Solitaire. It will change my picture to a deck of cards but when I finish playing Solitaire it will not change my picture back to what it was. However it will change my PSM back to what it was before I played.

If I want to put my original DP back, I have to do it manually.

Any one encounter this ?
Any possible way to fix this ?

Maybe with the skinning engine in 4.50 you can add your own icons.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this before, but there is a bug in the script. When using the Xfire options, they aren't actually saved when you click save because you have to set them again every time you run WLM.

Not only that, but the AppMon+ site no longer works.

Eitherway, I've not seen him log in for ages so chances are he's changed emails or given up on us as is the common thought, unfortunate because I really liked alex and I'm sure the community did too, his scripts are still some of the best I've seen with original features and UI's when scripting was brand new. I do know that he did get really bored of messenger though and scripting so who knows :(

The reason why sometimes AppMon+ didn't change the status is because for some reason xFire could move [STATUS] to the bottom of the .ini file, and AppMon+ by default depend on [STATUS] being on top.
Before BrutuZ changes I manually edit xfire.ini file and move [STATUS] to the top.

Hi all, I noticed with the WLM9 (14.0.8050) msgplus! (4.79.0.353) the game name not appear right on WLM9 in the contact list:

The script on my computer appear right, everything sounds good. But when a look my name in the contact list on another computer, the game name not appear. Only the PSM is display, when is a song is played, the song's name appear under. When someone try to talk to me, He can see the game a play in the chat window but only there...

So, anyone know how the new PSM system work?

So I'm new to the forums, I've read the "what scripts can do" thread so I'm confident this is possible.

I tried out the appmon+ script today, but due to some kind of compatibility issue it doesn't work. Maybe because its from 2006. (maybe the fact im on windows 7, WLM2009).

Would someone be able to make a script that changes "what im listening to" to fit the game/program I have open and also allow a change of my display picture and status depending on what I have running. Basicly just a newer, working version of appmon+

Any help much appreciated.
