Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by cooldude_i06 on 07-08-2006 at 12:07 AM

A person added me and offered me moderator status on these forums. His email address wasn't verified, so I knew it was a scam but I decided to play along. First he tried getting my password on the forums, then he tried to scam my paypal. Anyways watch out for him.

List of emails used by him:
admin@msghelp.net
admin@msgpluslive.net
admin@msghelp.ne

Edit: I got his ip address, it traces to New Delhi, India. Can anyone else confirm that?

Well if I have a few of you added to my account, we can catch this person out, and perhaps warn everybody out there on the internet about this person.

EDIT: Anybody else smelling a gjs1992 (or whatever his username is now) ploy to try and get back at us again???

RE: A very pathetic attempt at a scam... by Chrono on 07-08-2006 at 12:23 AM

Ohh I can't wait for this guy to try that on me.  It's going to be sooo much fun!

Do you always have electricity problems there, and your UPS doesnt power your computer, or do you have a faulty UPS which stops giving power at random intervals? :P

Yes, India has a lot of electricity problems :(. And my UPS is faulty and i need to buy a new one(maybe in a week) or get this one repaired. There are a lot of voltage fluctuations out here :/.
RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by NiteMare on 07-08-2006 at 06:07 AM

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Chestah on 07-08-2006 at 06:14 AM

Solution: Don't add your email address to your profile or post it anywhere in these forums :)

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by dylan! on 07-08-2006 at 06:23 AM

he didn't add me:(... yet;)

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by vaccination on 07-08-2006 at 07:18 AM

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Nathan on 07-08-2006 at 07:35 AM

But how the fuck did he get the "admin@msghelp.net" the subdomain is owned by patchou. So i reckon its one of the staff bored messing around :P

as you can see from the quotes: he has just registered it with a .net passport, but because he doesn't actually have the email address he cannot varify the account.

and just a message to everyone, please dont spam the thread with: "oh i wish that happened to me." Unless you have something important to say, dont say anything.
RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by wj on 07-08-2006 at 07:42 AM

We are working on this one guys. Hopefully this guy wont actually get anyone.

One request, if you get an IM from this guy, take a look at the who's online and see if you anyone is just browsing profiles and PM an admin with there username. Thanks.

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by user27089 on 07-08-2006 at 07:43 AM

I just hope you didn't really login on the dodgy site he gave you.

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by cooldude_i06 on 07-08-2006 at 08:25 AM

Haha, now he added me with admin@msgpluslive.net. Boy this guy must think we're idiots.

Can't Patchou register the e-mail this guy is using, and ask for a password recovery from the passport site? 8-)

No need for Patchou to register the e-mail, he must have got an email from .net passport using which he can allow or disallow the person using his account with Messenger.

Animal the fact that guests are viewing profiles is normal, and posting such isn't really going to help. Wj was asking for member usernames of those browsing profiles and this was only after knowing that the scammer was online to try and make a connection to who it could be...

Funny how if you don't sound interested right away or if you ask him who he is he gets all "don't waste my time" or "i see you're not interested" and then blocks you :/

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by vaccination on 07-08-2006 at 09:33 PM

Probably so we don't get suspicious and note his ip.

You can't really make a fake paypal... and I don't think you should do that as it's potentially dangerous, even if you don't use your own information...

Hmm, makes me wonder what he would do with the password/username of a forum account? Someone set up a spare one and see what he does with it.

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Menthix on 07-09-2006 at 12:08 PM

Yeah, I had that idea too, but was never added by that account and he didn't accept when I added him.

Just a spare account with a password you don't use anywhere else should do. Once you gave the guy the info he wants, make sure you PM a forum admin, so they can monitor who this guy is. I have an idea of who it is and what he wants.

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Nathan on 07-09-2006 at 12:12 PM

* Nathan goes to do it ;)

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Menthix on 07-09-2006 at 12:19 PM

Meh, I don't think posting the login on public is a good idea. Everybody can have fun and login with that, so admins won't know which IP belongs to the scammer.

Only you (or whoever registers the account) and the scammer should know login info, so it's easy to get the scammer IP.

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Underlord on 07-09-2006 at 12:27 PM

I think he's read this already too, but hey, it's worth a try... If he's still going on with the scamming we have at least a little chance to beat him at his own game :).

If it says "(E-mail Address Not Verified)" that means he doesn't have access to the email account.
RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by surfichris on 07-09-2006 at 12:40 PM

We've established who it is and have the IP address already.

There is no need to go around creating accounts to "catch out" whoever it is.

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Nathan on 07-09-2006 at 12:42 PM

Are you allowed to tell us?

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by surfichris on 07-09-2006 at 12:43 PM

Is there a need to know who it was/is?

I managed to find out who it was by looking in the server logs.

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by emit on 07-09-2006 at 01:12 PM

I wasn't thinking of catching out, fishy, more finding out what they would do once they had an account of another member.

That's what i found interesting time, i would like to know what he/she planned to do once they had username and account. Maybe they thought the user was most likely to give the password they use allready?

We've established who it is and have the IP address already.

There is no need to go around creating accounts to "catch out" whoever it is.

There isn't much you can do with an IP though, considering we don't exactly have access to MSN's black list. If we play along, we might be able to get more information.

If anyone got a link to a website from this guy and you know it was a phishing site or think it might be, please PM me with it.  Just want to clean those sites up so he cant try to scam anyone anywhere else using the same site.

is it still going on?

Who says the IP address is Indian?

The first post does - but are they sure it is the correct IP?

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Voldemort on 07-11-2006 at 12:43 AM

so where was the person from? Us?

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by Menthix on 07-11-2006 at 07:38 AM

I don't think Surfi is gonna tell us. It wouldn't help anyone telling that anyway, it can very well be a proxy and the actual scammer living somewhere else. In fact, you would be pretty stupid if you didn't use a proxy while you're doing stuff like this.

RE: Warning: admin@msghelp.net = scammer. by VincentChow.net on 08-05-2006 at 03:58 PM

Why do he want to hack someone's forum account?
Can't he just create a new account his own?
And the Paypal scam is really horrible.

By the way, how do we get the E-mail Unverified?

Just register a email you don't really have like admin@msn.com and then sign in to Messenger and then it will say E-mail Unverified, and don't bump old threads.
